My flatmates computer has spit the dummy and I have tried several boot disks, but they always seem to missing files that my older brother (in another part of the country) tells me are necessary.

they are command.com and io.sys (maybe .com)

does anyone know Windows 95?

get lost. her computer is ancient. she is a student = no money. 16meg of RAM.

by the way 240 new zealand buck is a lot of money when you get 150 a week from the govt (as a loan). our national student debt is now at 7 billion NZD.

but you are right (i have xp on my pc) :p

You do realise that every DOS based boot disk in existance uses those files, so any DOS boot disk made correctly will include them?

It must be something you're doing wrong.

I can point you in the direction of a DOS Boot CD if that will help, but being such an old PC it probably won't let you boot from CD.

How feasable is it to just take the HDD out and stick it in another PC?

Try 'Control'.

You're looking for a short window or opportunity here though... basically, just before the BIOS screen disappears keep tapping F8, F5 or Control (whichever it is for Win95 (I can't remmember either) - and select Command Prompt or whatever it is.
