The best: FX 5950 Ultra - horribly expensive, very very good.
FX5900 - very very fast, cheaper.
FX5900XT - slower, good price still the third best. Beats a 9600XT from ati
FX5700 good midrange card, fast for the price, not as good as the 9600XT
FX600 AVOID!!!!

:)

Dave, really just wait a little while, maybe 3 weeks / a month, when the new cards are launched - and these present ones will be cheaper :)

I've got an FX5600 and it's working fine for me! :)

@-qwerty- Why is it allegedly so terrible?? It has a better data processing bandwidth than any other GeForce card.

Here is my run down (slightly different), but based on what I've read:

5950 - the daddy of them all, expensive though, but you can get some good deals - approx £320

5900 Ultra - 256 Mb RAM, and a higher clock speed than 5900

5900 - 128 Mb RAM

5800 - vacuum cleaner

5700 - excellent card. more expensive than ATI 9600XT, but in games at least its quicker

5600 - pile of shite :P

5200 - a tarted up GF4 MX... which was also a pile of shite when it was released.

Locke, no offense intended! Its just dave asked what the best nvidia cards were, and the 5600 just isnt in that category. Btw, nothing wrong with an mx440! Does the job in gp4 ut2004, halo, its still better than the 5200 :)

I had an MX440, using that will be a step backwards as im now running a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 :)

Once funds are sorted for Le Mans and my replacement Digi cam, its a new gfx card, then a new mboard

what are the features of these new cards in a few weeks?

are these the ones that have been made in conjunction with doom 3 and halflife 2?

i'm thinking of upgrading my video card shortly, next acquirement in a week or so is 3ghz hyperthreaded intel chip, new mobo 800 fsb & Dual Channel DDR 400 Ram slots, 1Gb of ram

Total cost for the 3 components is £370.00 ( possibly need a new HD to go with the new technology

should get my racing sims and flightsims running nicely :)

Problem with this PCI-Express is Nvidia have until later this year only got a bridged form of it (called HTI or HCI) which means an agp speed card with a pci express socket. ATI have it native (jon - thats correct, do a search on google :p).

Basically pci express offers 4x the bandwidth of agp 8x, i believe, and you can have 2 or more pci express sockets on your pc, using 2 or more graphics cards = ULTRA GAMING :D

the cards in conjunction with HL2 are ATI 9600xt, 9800 pro, xt. I think doom 3 is better on nvidia, tho I dont know.

i second LS Post

Do these new PCI Express cards use stasndard PCI slots? Or do we need new motherboards for these?

I dont see any reason why not :) Zcott got my old GeForce 4 Mx 440!

I'll have to see if these new PC express cards need a new motherboard too, if they do i need one of them first
