Seriously, if it's a semi-technically competant person you're fine, but if it's someone who tells you 'i know nothing about computers', you start thinking 'well why did you phone?'
It's like having a car in many ways - if you get a car, you make sure you know how to drive before going onto the motorway. That's why there are no driving helpdesks! Some customers, however, just really set new levels of n00bness. Example programs some customers run:
Microwave Explorer
Windows Express 5
Windows 97, 9, xe, mp.... all the way up to Windows 2001.3, which after closed examination turns out to be Mac OS9!
...and yes, the above is all true, Even the people working here sometimes get their facts wrong, like the person who logged that a customer connected to his network using an Either Not cable :D
And as you've prolly guessed, that guy's cynicism is spot on. You need it, trust me.
