OK, I'm ordering the new pc tonight, but it doesnt come with an OS, and I'm not shelling out for a new one cos I have Win 98 SE, which is stable.
SOOOOOOOOOOOO, once the pc is plugged in, switched on etc, how do I install Win 98?

I need a dummies step by step guide....because I know nothing about it.

Cheers in advance!

Chris

Make yourself sure that in the BIOS the first loading device is set to CDROM, then turn the puter on, put the CD in, restart the puter, choose "load from CD" on the screen then follow the istructions of windows.
To enter the bios keep pressing "del" key (not backspace) as soon as you turn the power on.
The loading device can be set under the "boot" menu.

P.S. except for GP4 winXP is waaaaaaaaaaay better.

ok, so

1.Press 'del' or 'F1' depending.
2. Go to BIOS
3. go to boot
4. Select CDROM
5.Restart
6. Put CD in
7. Follow instructions
8.Restart
9 Install GP4
10 Watch as it doesnt run very well

Is that all correct? (don't want to mess this up)

1) it will tell you something at the start "Press ** to enter setup", and this will usually be Del or F1

2) doing number 1 will enter you into the BIOS :P

3)you will have to search around a bit to find the boot part, and select the Drive letter normally, some do actaully say "boot from: CDROM"

and the rest works

After u have installed windows u can change the boot back to A: or C: instead of CDROM

lol but this bit can be a bit of a struggle - as you only get the message for about 3 seconds. You gotta scan read the page and hit the right button before your computer explodes.

I have to do that on mine. It depends on the motherboard, really. My ECS K7S5A requires you to hold on DEL before you switch on, but my precious PC Chips LMR810 didn't.
