"That said, without a driver, the Precision Wheel works in XP on one axis"

In practical terms, what it means?

A Driver is something that is like a "patch" and will be have been made by microsoft to make the wheel work properly with XP.

You should find some drivers for your wheel (cool, you got one ? :D) at www.microsoft.com and in the section about your wheeel

OMG Chris I know what is a driver LOL (*.vxd is a driver - HH Frentzen is a driver - Alex Yoong is not a driver) and, weird enough, MS never released XP drivers for its wheels (that's why I did not buy yet).
I was rather asking what it means Wheel works in XP on one axis

Ok now try harder :D
which is the other axis and what other than steering a wheel is supposed to do?
i.e. what do I lose if I buy this one?

it means that the throttle and brake will be on the same axis, so if you depress them both fully the net result will be nothing. dual axis is much better especially in GPL, I don't think GP4 supports dual axis though. about the MS drivers for XP its true they haven't released any but i've been using the software meant for win98 in XP pro with no problems, this lets you enable dual axis and assign keyboard keys to buttons on the wheel

Got it now guys thanks!
BTW here at the store they have just MS or Trust (which I don't trust LOL).
Also the MS one has a cool way (clamps) for attaching it to the desk.
