Can anybody tell me how do I delete/remove magic data from a .dat file? I can certainly insert one with CMagic, but how do I delete it, so that in GP4 Builder it says 'This file contains no magic data.'

Another, track making related question: how do I get real elevations for a track? I can make assumptions for a track like Paul Ricard, but I currently make one from scratch, which has a lot of elevations.

Also, sorry that I haven't posted this in the track making thread, but I did not received any kind of answer the last time I wrote there. I mean, I know probably nobody knew an answer to that particular question, but still an 'I don't know.' would have been better than nothing.

Im not sure its possible to "delete" the magic data as such, although maybe there is an option in gp4builder, but im not expert on that side. I know that in tsm, you can return the magic data too its defaults, including all the original tracks, but apart from that im not sure.

well ... in my opinion, if the gp4builder tool says that this .DAT contains no magicdata is because there are no data to delete, right? ;-)

Deleting Magic Data : that's a good question and it seems nobody ever thought about removing them from a .dat as you can't do it in Cmagic nor in GP4Builder. I will add this feature to the to-do list.

Getting real elevations : If you're asking where on the net you can get track altitudes, I have no clue about it. If you want to tweak elevations in GP4Builder, you can have a look at Tools Menu\Track Profiler that was designed for this.

BTW I read your post in the track dedicated thread (as I'm reading all of the new posts in this thread) but I had no answer about your problem. the unused setting was named this way by me because I didn't see any effect in game of this value (but I could be wrong or maybe tested in the wrong circonstancies). I just notice you told about zig zag ccline, if it is that way, then the best thing to do is to remove the whole cc-line (deleting all but firsts sections). Track must load even with 1-2 sections as long as they follow the track layout. then you can create a new one that fit the whole track. And a last note : All I know about Shiftangle is in the user guide as I'm not a .dat editing specialist myself. So I can't tell you more about it.

Thank you very much Laurent for all the remarks. I appreciate them.

I asked about the deletion of magic data, because I had the common issue of having a custom track with a shorter bumptable than the one it is replacing, and it only loads with GpXPatch. I know it's strange, but I like to run the game without it. I thought that if I can remove the magic data allowing GP4 to use its default, it could load in properly. I could be wrong, of course. It is actually Pedro's Kyalami.

Elevations are still something to be work on, I currently do a Brands Hatch 195?-1975 layout from scratch. It will only be a beta, i. e. its whole 3D mesh is ignored, as my skills in 3D are zero, I just do the .dat conversion, much like Pedro did at his Österreichrings and Interlagos. I don't know yet if I will publish it. I don't want to publish half-baked works, although I would allow anybody to build a proper 3D mesh to it.

As for the CC-line zig zag, it was hard, but I had to scrap the whole things. I could not work around making a CC-line practically blind. I did the track modifications again, made the compromise of not moving the initial sector and it works well now.
