GPGSL British Grand Prix - Silverstone

Race Day - Part One

So here we are at last, it's race day! The drivers and teams have been too busy watching the Olympics in London to be bothered with racing. With some threats from the GPGSLRS to throw their collective toys out their pram, the teams relented and decided to take to the track.

With Ed Greenhalgh having clinched the World Drivers Championship, runners-up position was still up for grabs. Marko Aleksander, Ruben Greidanus and John Warrington are all vying for second in the WDC and are all in top 4 grid slots with John Maverick on pole.

There is also the small matter of the final of GPGSL Champions League to be decided too. Aston Martin Racing take on Team Shadow Subaru. AMR being in their 2nd consecutive final having lost to ScalaGP last season, but TSS hold the higher positions on the grid.

So lets go trackside for the start of the race as Maverick leads the drivers to their grid slots.

And we are away! Maverick holds on to the lead.

The two Shadows press the MPR man for the lead.

Greenhalgh has made one place to 6th.

Heading for Stowe for the first time and Greidanus looks to the outside of Maverick for the lead. Warrington also looks to pass Aleksander.

Warrington fails to get past Aleksander and Horváth nips past him into 4th.

Maverick survives but he's defending in the Vale from the Dutchman.

Greidanus still piling the pressure on Maverick. Will he buckle?

Elleker goes for an excursion in the countryside.

Rejoins the fray in 18th.

Greenhalgh goes fastest on the first lap.

Standings after one lap.

Horváth uses his team boost to good effect and takes 3rd from Aleksander.

Maverick and Gredanus in 1st and 2nd.

Hunsley slips onto the grass and spears towards the track, this could be very nasty.

Elleker become an innocent victim in Hunsley's accident.

Sheppard runs wide into the kitty litter.

Greidanus is fastest after 2 laps.

Horváth still 3rd but is closely followed by Warrington. Which means JW passed Aleksander for 4th unseen by the numpty cameramen.

After a great qualifying session, Thomas seems to be falling back fast.

That isn't going to help his cause however.

The Aussie rejoins the track down in 19th position.

Fellow Aussie Sheppard close behind in effectively last place.

Maybe not for long as Somogyi takes the long way round.

Greidanus going for the lead of the race.

Takes fastest lap and the lead!

Again missed by the camera's Aleksander has lost a place to Greenhalgh.

The AMR's squabble over 4th place. Champions League latest: AMR 17 TSS 22

Despite his team boost Horváth is losing ground to Maverick.

Johnson makes a mistake at Woodcote.

Looks like the throttle stuck or he got lead in his right boot.

35 laps to go. (GPGCL: AMR 17 TSS 22) (WDC: 1.EGR-177 2.RGR-132 3.ALE-126 4.WAR-124)

Warrington slows on the Hangar Straight.

Suspension failure! Has that put paid to Aston Martin's chances of winning the Champions League? It certainly ends Warrington's chances of taking the runners-up spot in the WDC.

Vilela becomes the latest victim of the Luffield sandtrap.

Greidanus is pulling out a gap on Maverick.

Rodríguez dives down the inside of Nell.

The ScalaGP man holds him off though.

Vilela then takes advantage of Rodríguez being held up to dive to the inside of his team mate.

Whats happened to Horváth? He's already been passed by Greenhalgh and now Aleksander pulls out to overtake.

And he's past!

The Hungarian seems to be slowing!

He is going so slow he is shoved into a spin by Jalving, but he is out of the race due to a brake problem.

Vilela tries to put Nell off his stroke, but it's just not working.

Greenhalgh now in 2rd is catching Maverick slightly.

Vilela still persevering.

And it pays off.

30 laps to go.

Stay tuned for part two.

Race Day - Part Two

Welcome back race fans. Maverick is now 4 secs behind Greidanus and it looks like both Greenhalgh and Aleksander are closing in.

A quick look at the minor places as Somogyi challenges Thomas for 17th.

Steer steers off!

The gap to the leader is getting bigger for Maverick.

Greenhalgh hunting down Maverick.

Greidanus takes to the pits.

Greenhalgh also gets a tyre service.

Maverick assumes the lead of the race.

But he too takes a stop.

This all means Aleksander now leads.

Jalving in 2nd.

Cartwright 3rd.

Jalving is next to stop.

Greenhalgh challenges his future team mate.

And takes the position.

Cartwright dives for the pitlane.

Aleksander goes round again.

Cartwright exits into 11th place.

24 laps to go and we are part way through the first stops.

Aleksander stops for tyres and fuel.

Edwards passes Kittleson.

1st RGR. 2nd EGR. 3rd MAV. 4th ALE. 5th JAL.

Ruben Greidanus looking imperious.

Vilela somehow finds himself behind his team mate once again.

Here's a challenge for 3rd.

Aleksander takes Maverick for 3rd place.

Is Greenhalgh catching Greidanus?

Nell smoking his new tyres.

Aleksander is also catching Greenhalgh.

20 laps to go.

Stay tuned for part three.

Keep going Micheal, still on for some good points!

GPGSL - Christel VXR team Boss S6-S8, S12 Onwards

Of course this had to happen. I really wonder why it is that I can't hold my pace over a complete race, even with having a better car perf than the guys around me. It's so frustrating to start from pole and then maybe even miss a podium. But as I already predicted this...I just hope that next season things will go better.

5th place, with my teammate in 4th.. Can I overtake hjim? Did he spoil his tyres with all the defending?

Not sure if I should take the risk or be happy with this result!

Retirement in my last ever race. No wonder I am returning to testing only

Part three will be tomorrow guys, I'm struggling to stay awake here. Goodnight all.

5 x WCC - S5, S6, S7, S8, S10 | 4 x WDC - S5 Nick van der Voort ; S6, S7, S8 Ed Greenhalgh | 2 x WTC - S6 Stuart Ingers; S8 Andrei Sevastian
So both cars lost about 6 seconds in the pitstops, great.. Also with Kittleson in 7th we can say goodbye to that 6th place.

Race Day - Part Three

Greenhalgh looking for yet another podium in what has been a fantastic year for the AMR man.

Maverick losing time to 3rd placed Aleksander.

The Slovenian looks to be catching Greenhalgh too. Could this be a Team Shadow 1-2?

The ART boys fighting over 13th.

Greenhalgh edges closer to Greidanus, but he can't even see the Dutchman ahead.

Jalving has a relatively quiet race in 5th place.

He seems to be catching his team mate.

Somogyi bringing up the rear.

Aleksander in action in his last race.

Its getting close for 2nd.

And for 4th.

Somogyi goes for 16th and demote Thomas to last running car.

He's got it!

Here we go! Aleksander pulls out from behind Greenhalgh.

Greenhalgh holds on but Aleksander is still in his mirrors.

The 2nd round of pitstops has begun.

Aleksander is close behind Greenhalgh as the Aston Martin goes for a 2nd tyre change.

Cartwright makes a mistake.

A half feint by Jalving to intimidate his team mate.

Aleksander takes 2 tenths out of Greidanus' lead.

Jalving attempts a pass on Maverick, but fails.

10 laps to go.

The leader is in for his stop.

As is Maverick.

Greidanus rejoins in 4th.

Aleksander pits after briefly leading.

Jalving stops too, can he jump Maverick?

Aleksander returns in 3rd.

Edwards takes the fastest lap.

Greenhalgh retains 2nd position.

Greidanus is back in the lead.

Maverick holds on to 4th place.

Jalving 5th.

Ruben must really like this set of tyres as he sets a new fastest lap.

As a result Greenhalgh is really losing touch with the lead.

Kittleson is determind to retake Edwards.

Aleksander tries again to take 2nd.

So now we have a TSS 1-2!

5 laps to go. (WDC: 1.EGR-179 2.RGR-132 3.ALE-131 4.WAR-115

Kittleson still plugging away at Edwards.

Edwards shuts the door again.

Nell defends from Vilela having lost a place to Pedersen.

2 laps to go and its looking very comfortable for TSS in their home grand prix.

Last lap.

Ruben Greidanus and Team Shadow Subaru win the British Grand Prix.

A fantastic performance by TSS as Aleksander takes 2nd in his last GP.

Greenhalgh gets another podium.

Maverick 4th.

Jalving in 5th place.

Congratulations to Ruben Greidanus of Team Shadow Subaru. Winner of the British Grand Prix and runner-up in the World Drivers Championship.

Awesome result by Team Shadow Subaru. Huge congratulations to both Ruben and Marko! Ruben undoubtedly the king of Silverstone.

What a season too. Congrats to AMR and Ed with the very well deserved championships. Perfect season for you.

Thank you to Subaru who have powered us for the last time but what a way to go out of the GPGSL.

The biggest thanks goes to Marko however who has been a star over these last few seasons both in helping the team and the series as a whole - you'll be missed matey.

Thanks also to everyone running the GPGSL this season too. It's a tough job but I'm sure I speak for all when I say it is wholly appreciated

Charrels race comments

What a race! Starting from 8th, having jumped some places I showed to be really competitive. I was chasing my teammate for 4th place, but after a not to good pitstop I fell back again.
The team really needs to work on the pitstops this winter, but I will give more comments on my future soon!

I am statisfied to have finished the season in a 6th place in the WDC and finished 3rd in de WCC. Its not what we hoped for, but seeing how the season went we can be happy about it.

Perfect ending of the season with a second consecutive win and a back to back win at Silverstone. Nice ending from Marko also, very typical to be second again though. Sadly Marko is retiring and not Ed. :(

Nevertheless, next season should be a clash of the titans.
