Guys, after 9 years GP4 on a AMD Athlon2000, 1GB, GeForce and a Thrustmaster Ferrari wheel, I´m searching for a new system, sound card, video card, screen and wheel... I´m looking to a Intel i5-2500 system, 4GB RAM, 2TB SATA, GeForce GT440 (1GB) and maybe 24-inch....but what steering wheel is the question, and more important...works with GP4 / Windows 7? Please if you have any thoughts, ideas, whats or ever, I read every reply and take any note serious. All experiences
Thanks in advance!

Well, first of all I wouldn't buy the GeForce GT440 but throw that few bucks more in and get a GTX 460.

Concerning the racing wheel, you might want to state what you're willed to pay for it. Cause it depends mostly on the price what one would recommend.

buy any Ati Radeon HD 5830 model (GDDR5, PCI-e, bus 256Bits) or higher ... Nvidia GFX 460GTX provides similar performance to this Ati Radeon model and is more expensive :p

The GTX 460 provides better render qualities than the HD 58XX series. And my intention was only to say that the price-performance ratio for the GTX 460 is much better than for the GT 440 ;-)

But again, any discussion here depend on how much Robbin is willed to spend

Maybe choosing a smaller HD you could buy better GPU (don't know HD prices where you live)

What about the HD68** series?

The only real option is the HD 6850. Rather similar performace and possibility to use 6 screens instead of 'only' 2 for the GTX 460.

But the HD 6850 is a lot louder and uses a lot more energy in full power mode. Therefore a little less in throttle mode.
As for the price, they're rather identical when you buy them new. But still the GTX 460 is the better choice for me, personally, if you run only 1 or 2 screens. And seriously...I haven't tested it, but somehow I doubt that a HD 6850 can run a recent game with 6 screens without losing a lot of performance.

The G25 is a good wheel, and I think prices have come down since the new model came out.

The G25 is a good choice if you can find one for a reasonable price (they're pretty rare now) - else the Driving Force GT is quite good, and there's the more expensive and better G27 too.

if you buy any ATI HD 58xx or higher model you can run games on 3 displays at the same time (if the games suport this tecnology) ;-)

i could be wrong, but knew that G27 does not support Grand Prix 4 (G25 already does). the last user who asked me to set up a wheel had one (G27) and it was failing. don´t know if he was successful because didn´t return to ask for help :p

Guys thanks for all your advices concerning videocards and wheel. I think I have my configuration:
i5 2500, 4GB RAM, 1TB SATA 3 (7200rpm), ATI HD6850, Creative SB XI-F Platinum, 22,5 inch Samsung LED, trying to get the Logitech G25.
If you may have some additional thoughts, please share!

Looks a good system :)

Make sure to get the i5 2500K though, the price is similar to the 2500 but there's the massive advantage of an unlocked multiplier so it can be overclocked (past Intel's small speed increases under load).

Can't comment on the sound card, but it seems pretty expensive so obviously I can recommend researching if it's good value etc. - the same applies to your monitor.

I suggest Asus motherboard and a set of dual channel RAM memory modules @1600MHz (or higher) .

Get an SSD instead of a regular hard drive. I can't recommend this enough. They are SO fast.

I have a Crucial 128GB SSD for Windows plus programs / games, along with a regular HDD for storing files on. SSDs are expensive but trust me they are worth it!
