gp4 crashes...

Hi, it's with a little anger and despair that I make this post as I reinstalled gp4 about 15 times in the last 3 days with always the same result (don't tell me to reinstall as I know all the steps perfecly now).

I've been playing LFS since years and never had any sorts of problems. but last week I felt the need to get back to gp4 again as I love the way the sim is designed.. but these problems are starting to get on my nerves as i've had about 10 blue screens since 3 days and about 70 normal crashes. The game works fine on my laptop so my guess is that the cause is outside gp4 itself but I deativated the antivirus, firewall, soundcard, done error-checking on the drive, even changed the speed of my RAM and it's always the same.

The game was working fine before.

EDIT: the game does not crash at exit without GPXpatch and the 1.02 nocd although it still generate blue screens. Game was still crashing though in graphic option while calibrating and I figured out that reflection at high was responsible. So that would gives three sorts of crash, escape on gpxpatch, reflection high causing the game to go back to desktop, and the blue screens which are generated on race mode. On hotlap mode there doesn't seem to be any problem.. unless I press escape to quit the game with the gpxpatch of course.

spec: core to quad q6600 (set a 0 cpu in gpxpatch of course), gpu is stock nvidia 9800 pro so the game should run fine, but even at low setting still blue screens. Never had any problems with other games.

There is insufficient information in the log to determine a fault. Please set verbosity to high. Can you confirm that it is a vanilla out of the box installation please. Please note the error code when you get a bsod.

Yep, being sure you do not use any mod (for testing purpose) would help and what's your graphical card driver version ?
Did you try to reinstall DirectX9c (can't hurt) ?

Blue screens would indicate a hardware or driver fault, rather than a problem with GP4 itself. presumably, something to do with the way GP4 works is aggravating it

I just updated directx to newer version and the problem still persist.

I made tons of vanilla installations and this one is vanilla as well.

No mods have been installed and my 3d drivers are 258.96.

I did an Error-Check for my hard drive yesterday to make sure everything is alright.

I'm sure now it isn't gp4's fault but I don't have problems with any other games/sims so it itches me quite a bit.

My guess would be my RAM but as I said, it works fine with everything else.

The game was working fine on my pentium 4 in the days I bought it and last year I installed the mod 1991 on this rig and it was working as well.

Maybe a recent update from nvidia would make gp4 more difficult to handle with my gpu? I will try to play it with my cheapass intel onboard video card and i'll keep you updated.

I downloaded newest drivers for motherboard as well as the sound card although they were relatively recent and it seems to work perfectly til now :D
