Hi guys. I would like to create some new cars for GP4 but I have no idea how to import them into Zmodeller. I have the plugin for it and the the program but I do not know which file to import as I can't find any named *.gp4.

Any answers are greatly appreciated

Regards
Warren

Hey Warren,

First of all you need GP4 Master and need to extract the wad file Cars.wad.
Then in Zmodeler, click on import, and select the type of file as "Grand Prix-.gp4". Then select the first in the series of the car that you want. E.G Car_Williams_lod0. Make sure you save your project though as a z3d file as once you export the .gp4 file, it cant be opened again. Hope this helps

Cheers
Zach

also get tex editor, and the batch export plugin, and export all the *.tex files so your car, once you import it, will have textures, saves quite a bit of hassle later

ZM is hard to find now, NFSchaets was hacked and the site is down still

Making cars is harder in GP4 cos not only is there alot mroe detail you also have to map the textures.

this also means the cars can be very different than GP3, which was very ahrd to make a decent shape that was non-single seater. the best i seen was Kevin Clovers Chaterham Cup cars

i found it from the url i listed.
and the gp4 plugin(but i think it came with the version i got-1.07).

i havent had a decent look but had trouble importing some .gp4 files. is there a way to unlock them?

some of t he things i've seen look pretty amazing (gt & safety car) so i guess there will be lots available in the future (british touring cars, aussie v8s trucks(!?)etc)

i'll see what i can do and just maybe i'll have something ready in the next 20 odd years or so :).

is there a way to unlock them?

authors lock there cars to stop them being leeched. Try importing a default GP4 car first

ok.

is it only possible to modify (not create from scratch)?

is it possible to export .3ds files to .gp4?
i guess not.

thanks for all the halp anyway, and keep up the good work

Yes, and yes

you can create a car from scratch in ZM, as lnog as it fits GP4s game layout it will work - it must have the same obejct names (like left_front_suspension etc)

And ZM can import .3ds files, and again, as long as the object names fit GP4s critieria, they wil work in GP4

do you mod originals or create from scratch?

i've done a little 3d work and will try some long term project with gp4 maybe.
i'm a wee way from starting anything but its good to get some info now.

how many hours go into yours (zakspeed/viper etc)

the cars were about 10hours each.

they were made from scratch in AutoCAD then imported into ZM and made into GP4 format so we could run them in GP4
