MagicData FAQ

Hi guys,

I am taking a closer look into the magicdata files, most of the data seem straight forward, but not everything. That's why I'd like to ask a bit more info concerning a few items. I hope someone could explain me what effect changing these values has on the game.

1) Power Factor (Ace --> Rookie): I noticed that the Sepang track I use has a much lower value (450 on Ace) than other tracks (+/-500). What does this mean? That the AI controlled cars are slower at Sepang in comparison with other tracks? Shouldn't this be equal then for all the tracks to have a consistent season?
2) AI Errors: Is this the chance of AI controlled cars making a driving error? I've seen values of 1, 37, 47 and even 112…
3) Tyre Wear: I have 13300 for Valencia and 17707 for Montreal, is the Canadian track so much harder on the tyres? Or do I interpret this wrong?
4) AI Race Performance: since there already is a performance file, what does this value do?
5) AI Tyres: what value represents a normal hard type tyre and which is a soft tyre?
6) Sectors to pit in begin / end: no idea what this could be, obviously sth with pitting.
7) Fuel: I noticed that I consume about 0.7 laps of fuel per actual lap that I drive on the Barcelona track. The Fuel value for that track is 8088, is it ok if I lower this without having to worry about not having enough fuel at the end of the race?
8) Splits: The MagicData files for Silverstone, Shangai and Suzuka don't contain values for the split-time points, however in game I get split times. How is that possible?

It is quite a lot and maybe you can't explain each point, but if you could help me on one or two, I will be a happy man.

Thanks

Kind regards,

i think that's possible because split values can be changed on GP4Builder too.

Magic data in GP4 is a bit of a black art - no-one really knows what everything means and how it all works.

I'll answer what I know;
2. Yes
7. You will need to raise the number if you want to get closer to 1.0 "Litres" per lap.
8. The splits can also be set by the dat file itself

8 : if no magic data is set, game will use 1/3 and 2/3 of the track for split time positions.

Thanks for all the responses so far! I've got an extra question considering nr2: what is an average value for the AI cars driving errors? I've seen it go from 1 to 100+, or even better what is the value range?

Maybe it has to do with the fact that Sepang in 2001 was a very new track.

I think you're right, a higher value is a higher tyre wear. You can experiment by changing the values and test it ingame.

The first value is for pit entry, the second one is for pit exit. When you decrease for example the first value, the ai cars will diving very late into the pits. High chance of crashing. The values are related to a flag set in the dat file for the pitlane.

You have two values for fuel consumption, the first is for ai cars and the second for the player car. In your case i shall increase it, now you will have plenty of fuel left.

My Grand Prix 4 Files

I'm a total dick. How many people can say that?

I think the average is about 64.

But you need to guess and check to find out the best number for each track.

the standard values for the sepang track are:

505 ; ?? cc power factor ace
516 ; ?? cc grip factor ace
505 ; ?? cc power factor pro
482 ; ?? cc grip factor pro
495 ; ?? cc power factor semi-pro
466 ; ?? cc grip factor semi-pro
477 ; ?? cc power factor amateur
463 ; ?? cc grip factor amateur
459 ; ?? cc power factor rookie
457 ; ?? cc grip factor rookie

example:

54 ; hard tyre
53 ; soft tyre
100 ; >= 50 tyretype 1 else 0

first two parameters determine the grip level of hard and soft tyres.
lower that value means more grip that this tyre will have. third parameter (tyretype), determines whether the CC's cars will
use hard or soft tyres in setup. 100 means they'll use hard, 0 is soft, OK? :p
