Need help installing 2010 update

Well I'm trying to update my GP4 with this guide: [www.grandprixgames.org]
But I have NFI how to even do the first step to change the .gp4 file, is there a certain program or something i need to open? I tried searching for the files but can't find them.
Yes I'm a complete noob when it comes to modding so some help would be appreciated
