I don't know for you, but I was a bit frustrated of all those picts of F1 2002 tracks with fine detailed tarmac.
So i decided to take a look at what we can do with GP4.
Result is just there :

I think the quality is far enough now :)
The good news is that i release that texture here: [realgpx.free.fr] the bad is that you need to patch each track wad, but it's not so long after get used to do the operation :)

Do you need bump mapping turned on?

I turn it off as it makes no noticable difference on the defualt textures at 200mph, but the po goes down and fps goes up

i don't know if have a hit of perf with bump mapping on because i play in 1600*1200 with near everything on (except video walls) and run fine at 25fps but i think it's thanks to the GeForce 4 TI4200 128Mb.

LOL. If track textures actually showed up on my GP4, and I used those textures, I'd be crawling round at 3fps :P

I use one of a download of 10, and I use number 7, looks really good. Tarmac is actually very dark -not like in GP4. I'll post some screens if I have time.

Hmm, a 5 fps hit is probably something my cpu cant take at the moment. I need to rob a bank so I can buy a GF4 :)

Could someone please point me in the right direction as i am struggling to implement the new textures.I have got to the stage where i have swopped the tarmac textures in the new file and have re-started GP4 master.I have been trying to create a wad from this new folder to replace the old one but dont seem to be doing this right, can anybody help?

Okay....

You need to click 'create WAD from directory', and then copy and paste the target folder where you first extracted the original .wad file. Then name the .wad file the same file as the .wad file you want to replace in your GP4 folder, and click 'ok'. It will then save this new .wad file either in your GP4 master folder or in your GP4 directory. If you don't know if the one in your GP4 folder is your new or old one, just check it's properties and see when it was created - if it was a couple of mins ago you know this is the new one. If not, just drag the .wad file from the GP4 master folder and let it overwrite the current one in the GP4 folder. Phew!

I discovered a nice thing some days ago about that:

After you clicked on the "create wad" button and tells where is the unwadded folder, instead of input only the name of the wad you want to create, you can specify the path at the same time like c:\monza and then it will create a wad named monza.wad in the c:
Very usefull, instead of searching where it has been created by GP4Master.

Right please bear with me here,i have done what i believe to be right but the new wad file is only 4 bytes in size so cannot replace the original at 18.4MB,is there a step i am missing?
