Geoff said that his circuits in GP4 were made with the use of GPS.

If so why can you go round 130R faster than they can on TV?

Also the car doesn't loose stability and get wildly out of shape? (McNish and Sato).

Nothing gets closer, eh?

I think not...

Anyone else found this out.

(p.s I know this is nothing to do with GP4 but I REALLY want to know how the hell are they going to put ballast on F1 cars without altering the geometry or the stability of the car (cast iron front wing, lol!) does anyone else agree)

Its Mansell! He's slowing down! Hang on a minute, its a new lap record!!!

The 'nervousness' of the car in real life is not at all evident in GP4 - the grip levels are just way too high.

How do I bring them down to real life level?

and also what do you think about the PS section of the question?

They'll probably put pieces of lead in behind the radiators, or behind the cockpit, or something.

or at the central point of gravity on the car, besides, the cars have ballast anyway and the teams move it around to suit the setup & circuit so i would'nt have thought it would make a massive difference to the handelling, just slower instead

I think the idea of not contracting one driver to one team is more interesting. swap drivers between teams evenly throughout the season ? I still say the best driver would rise to the top.........................but then again i'm daft :)

@97kirk:

well, as far as i know they do it with (almost) full power in real life, at least in qualifying. it took me a few days of practise before i made this corner at full throttle, and it still is a risky manouver every time. the car is unstable, comes too close to the kerbs, gets loose at the rear, all what you want. i fly off the track mcnish-style every other attempt. in race, with a heavy car, i find it impossible.

take a wheel, switch off all driving helps, no steering assistance, 0% low sensitivity zones... and then try if 130R still is not challenging.

greetings, jp

I agree with jp2... I used to have a little steering assist and could take 130R no probs... it all got a bit too easy, so I turned every assist off... much more realistic and challenging!

And if you don't have a wheel, GP4 aint really worth playing!!!

dont exagerate :)

It is well worth playing even without a wheel - i do it :P

You really should need a wheel to play a proper sim but with GP4 it seems it's still a good game without one. I'm not sure if it's because it's got great steering help or because it's not very real. Whatever it is, it certainly caters for everyone.

your certainly misssing a experience by not using a wheel

I'll try it, but I am already a go-karting champ in England.

I am 16 now and will try to get in Formula ford or something around the next 2 years, after all Kimi Raikonnen had hardly experience when Sauber got him in 2001.

Geoff said that his circuits in GP4 were made with the use of GPS.

This always makes me laugh. GPS is global positioning system... which doesnt pickup how the track is formed... they use infrared radar thingy in reality.

Good luck though 97kirkc with the Formula Ford.... dont spent too much time upside down though! :)

Well it is possible to use GPS to get ground elevation data - the latest GPS hand-helds can do this, and it's fine for hill walking and mountain climbing, but I doubt it would be accurate enough to model the subtle variations on a race track...

it could model stuff like Eau rouge hill and ground elevation over a decenbt distance - but it wont pick up stuff like the bumps on Brazil stright

Anyway, one or two tracks are wrong

Brazil turn 4 - its way to easy flat

If a corner is too easy the track model might still be accurate. The problem might come from different sources

- car size: if the car/track ratio is wrong corners can be too easy/difficult

- missing g-forces: as Morbid did point out earler, GP4 does not simulate g-forces. If it did, Eau Rouge would be a helll of a lot more difficult in GP4

- inacurate pghysic model in general: If it has one of the most advanced physic models there is, it cannot (and does) claim to be perfect. "Nothing comes closer" does not mean "It's the real thing"
