IMHO 25fps are the base for playing GP4, while 30fps is recomended for really nice flow of graphics.
Now consider the refresh rate of your display.
Try to use a refresh rate value that is multiple of your GP4 fps rate.
E.g. if you use 25fps, set the refresh rate to 75(=25*3) or 100(=25*4).
if you use 30fps, set the refresh rate to 60(=30*2 - LCD only) 90(=30*3) or 120(=30*4) and so on.

So, for a 35fps I suggest setting your LCD refresh rate to 70(=35*2).
Or set your fps to a value that divides to integer your current LCD refresh rate.
I use this tweak for a long time and my eyes don't get tired anymore.
