Major Help : Please Nuno, LS, other smart people :-)

G'day all...

OK, from the start.... I have a horrid computer, specs that need not be repeated here. However, GP4 is capable of being run, I just can't run it at an enjoyable, playable rate. All this talk of the recent config thingie editing brought up by Nuno has got me paying attention, but I still don't understand what to do, like, I know where/what the config file is, but adding lines to it and stuff just confuses me.

Soooo, the purpose of this post, is to get some helpful insight from the more experienced people here, who hopefully can realise they're dealing with a newbie to this :$, so a little bit of step by step help may be required.

And can you also please try and reach to the furthest corners of ur minds for tips, cos I have a pretty damn dodgey comp....:S

that idea is like this:

in your menu gfx, in game.. put your resolution to the maximum that your pc/monitor allows (try 800x600) then go to the advanced menu..

put your graphics at full, and set the fps to 20 or 23 for example...
exit your game saving the settings..

edit the config file (open it with wordpad) and only change that "32bit" line from 1 to 0. exit the file saving it.

go to the game and go directly to the track. test.

the menus of the gfx are now completly wrong but what matter is inside the game

Study the original post, (superfast gp4) it is really easy to edit the file using notepad

Mike, is that your 350mhz computer? If it is than I know how it runs. I played around in the .cfg file, making 1s 0s at some points. If you don't think your gfx card could easily handle a certain option, change it to 0, then test.

Thats the best way to do it. It takes ages but just go through the config file and make small changes and see what happens.

yep.. thats the way man.. i tried that once.. but then the game was all black.. :s

I know....it can do that. But just note down what you change, or keep a copy before you edit.

Try these settings in f1graphics.cfg for a BIG performance boost:

0 ; [MAIN VIEW] Distance cull ALL track objects past this distance (overides LOD, 0 => off) v2
5 ; [MAIN VIEW] Fade out (cull) track objects band depth as % of cull distance (0 => immediate at cull point)
10 ; [MAIN VIEW] Scale track LOD distance - make larger to force lower LOD earlier
30 ; [MAIN VIEW] Constant min distance in metres for track LOD calcs - make larger to force lower max LOD - else 0 for full LOD range
30 ; [MAIN VIEW] Threshold distance in metres to switch in low LOD track


It lowers the distance that the program draws the background objects

also lower the textures on the pitcrew

I have found that sometimes the game goes all black, but only on some comps, and sometimes the game canbt find add-on texturtes and leaves it white, but again, only on some computers

theres some weird coding in this game :S
