Hello ppl,

I got a ti 4200 just b4 i changed to xp. GP4 was a dream, 26 fps with 4x FSAA and high detail on 1024x 768, with P0 @ 100%, and 2d and EAX enabled. I have now gone to XP, with same settings, i am now at 150%!???????????

Any ideas? is this an XP thing? if so, any fixes? i hear new sb live drivers help (i have sb live value card), but too big too download at mo.

Cheers

Beardy

All I can think of is that newer versions of windows require more RAM to run, and that means you have less free for gaming. Just a thought.

It's not an XP thing, it's a Crammond thing. Indeed in the patch they are going to try to make GP4 run better under XP.
Interesting that XP was out full six months before GP4. Where they at Simergy lived during this time? On the moon eating cheese?

ok, i installed the newer sb live drivers. Worked a treat. PO now 80% from 150%. However, there is a strange crackling/popping sound when playing gp4, no others games do this, anybody else have this?

Try moving your sound card on the last PCI slot (the one closer to the edge of the motherboard and farthest from the CPU).

That slot (at least it works for MB with 5 slots - so if you have 6 slot try both the last one and the fifth) doesn't share his IRQ with other devices. Many did found out that if the SBLive is in another PCI slot is prone to crackle and pop.
I read this more than once in hardware newsgroups.
Mine is in fourth and gives no problems, so there is no guarantee but no risks either :-)

Yep, i had these with my audigy some month ago but it was a driver issue so i just stand with my old driver for a while (but GP4 wasn't released yet so i didn't need to have less PO :)

No! Moon-cheese is not good.
They simply could not afford to delete the launch of the game for months (it would have sound ridiculous to play with 2001 cars in 2003).

At least the guy can play it and doesn't crash to desktop!!!
But I paid fifty euro for that crappy software.

right, i move the card form pci 4 to 5, still same problem. Moved the card to a diff pc same problem. hmmmmmmm, er.... running out of ideas. The newer drivers have made the game perform beter but have made the sound awful :(

Yeh I had some probs with win xp too, but I just downloaded the new gfx file and it goes way better!

Athlon Xp 2000+
393 MB 266mhz
Nvidia GeForce 2 MX400 64MB
20 GB 7200RPM Harddisk
Windows XP pro

I get 40 fps with almost everything on high and envirement mappin on as well as the adfvanced lightening on static and videowalls, heat haze and mirrors switched off! play it in 1000x700 (PO 70-110 max) sometimes i try it on 1200x1000 with the same settings, but the Po gets a little bith too hight, (100-130) and then I just get 28-30 fps but highter resolution looks better but I think a geforce 2 is a little bith too weak for it!
