3d driverarms in cockpit view :)

hi mates,
while i was playing around with my personal steering wheel i created this:
real 3d arms and 3d steering wheel.
only, they have no reflections, due to the fact the steering wheel was 2d. maybe somebody knows how to shade them, or adjust some values with gp4builder.
and yes, they turn with the wheel and this looks crappy, but it´s a start...
i made two styles, straight and downwards. beside the lousy textures and simple shape, what would be better ?

matt

Nice start Matt :)

Maybe this is the first step towards "perfect" 3d arms for both tcam and cockpit views :)

i think down would be better.

but you'd still have a problem when the wheel is fully turned, as we can see in your screens.

its a great start, and difficult to find a solution as i don't think gp4 is capable of having movable joints.

well, i fear that it will be hard to combine both, this one is a 3d shape, the t-cam arms are hardcoded in the gp4.exe.
for the t-cam the helmet-arm-steer shape was almost perfect. i don´t mind not to see 120 degrees wheel-turning in t-cam-view. and i don´t drive in t-cam anyway... :)
and for this arms it will be as with the steering wheel, only one shape/texture for all cars. csm-users could choose before entering the game.

but we shouldn´t want to much. in other race games you can´t get into the the cockpit-view except your own car.

for the arm-"fix" i was hoping to find something in the cockpit.gp4 file, but this file is useless, you can delete it and the game is still running.

hasn´t rfactor the same silly turnings in cockpit-view ?

matt

You can use this sweell ,BUT! This is only for BMW. After update rest of cockpits will be white ,beacose i have only one texture."cp_Sauber.tex"Of course you can use only stering weell (cockpit_wheel.gp4 ,new_steering_wheel_displays.tex, steering_wheel_centre.tex ,steering_wheel_ends.tex) without my cockpit you must correct positon of sweell in team editor.
install:make copy your cars.wad:) Use wad updater dont,t rename files ,only cp_Sauber.tex if you want install my cockpit, look in to your cars.wad and check name of texture. cp_------.tex

the down arm version is definitely better, mainly because of realism. one of the first things they teach in driving school is not to have our arms straight like that as it restricts you. I laught when i see losers in there modified honda civics pushing their seat back and driving with straight arms because they think it makes them look cool or racy when they dont realise how bad it is for driving technique.
