Hardware GP4 Question

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC and was wondering what graphics card to purchase. I have a 256mb Nvida PCI. I'm looking at a Nvida 8800 512mb PCI. I want to run GP4 and rfactor at full graphics without any stoppages or lag. Will this do the job? I have already increased the ram from DDR2 1.5 gigs to 4 gigs.

Well, it depends of your processor too... But if you can spend a little money , I suggest you to upgrate your graphic card to a 9600 GT...Otherwise the 8800 512mb is good enough, I guess. It should run correctly if you have at least a 2 Ghz processor. I'm telling you this for GP4 if you want to use the last updates (cars, tracks or mods) ...For Rfactor, no problem, with a 8800 512mb or even less, it is fine!

This is probably gonna sound stupid but if you have 4 gig of RAM in your machine then XP will only recognise 3/ 3.5 gig of it. If you have XP x64 then it will recognise all 4 gig and will go up to 8 gig. If you are on XP x32 then you will be loosing 512mb/ 1 gig of RAM because it can't read that much memory.

Thanks all. I didn't know that Windows XP x32 won't recognize more the 3g. Will an Intel Quad processor run the 9600GT card and 4g of ram with Windows XP x64? Just trying to get the most bang for the buck thats all.

It should be able to do so, it all depends on whether or not the CPU you have supports x64 OS'
