GP4 Runnning Badly

I have recently upgraded my computer from:
AMD 64X2 6000+
8800GTX
2GB of Ram.

Running under Vista 64 I used to get about 50fps when running the game in 1280x1024 with everything maxed out completly.
But I recently switched to:
Intel Q9550 Quad Core
ATI 4870
8GB of Ram

Again using Vista 64 but this time I can only get 25 fps and the game jerks so much in trackside replays.

I have tried running as admin and in Windows XP compatibility mode and no matter what I seem to try the game just wont run properly, is there anyone with the same graphics card having problems like I am?

Any help would be appreciated.

in general, your graphics card should be able to eat GP4 alive, so i suggest to max out your graphics settings and see what you get from there.

I've got at GTX 280, and when you try to be conservative, it doesn't perform that well, these cards love hi resolutions and lots of AA and AF, so if you can wack up the visual quality and resoutions, you game should work better

its really wierd with such a pc you get crap results. Maybe its due the 64 bit version of windows combined with the 8gb ram and quadcore. Maybe something went wrong when you installed it or something is wrong in the f1graphic file.

Have you set cpu to 1 in gpx?

The lower performance comes from the Quad Core processor.
These types of cpu are not good with old games.
The best to run this game are single or dual core cpu´s
even though gp4 cant handle 2 cores.

Thanks Mortal,

You are a legend, completly fixed the problem.

I can now play GP4 in 1600x1200 everything maxed out, including all AA and AF maxed in the ATI Control Panel.
And can play now at 60fps with no slow down in replays what so ever.

Thank you Mortal, I can now play the game again.

Hi Mortal,

What do you mean by "set cpu to 1 in gpx"? I use GPx 3.91 and I only have the choice between "all" or "0"...

All means the game runs on all cores available, 0 is for core 1 and 1 is for core 2, for quadcores there should be a 4 but there we need an update for. So now it means your gp4 game runs on 1 core which is actually sad when you have a quadcore but hé better this way then no game at all.

With Gp4 you can play with 2 core processors but that
doesnt mean that actually it uses the 2 cores to run
the game !! Infact Gp4 was designed to be played on
a single core cpu !

true it was designed for 1 core but it works on 2 cpu's cause with a G15 keyboard you can see it on a display which cpu does what and its split evenly on both cores.

All right, thanks for theses informations. So, if tou set your cpu on "all" with a single core processor, does it affect the stability of the game. Should I set cpu on "0"?

if you have a single core just set it on O cause on all doesn't matter since you only have one processor.

Depends on your pc. I think users should try the options
and see witch one is more stable for their use.
In my case im using Cpu "O" but others can play in Cpu "1"
or "all".
