Today they made these new drivers available online.
Do they enhance the frame rate?
The answer is: maybe.
If I'm not wrong I gained 2fps (from 34 to 36).
If I'm not wrong..that's it :)
Will someone else confirm this?

I must be missing something here.

With hardware acceleration turned off - I get 30fps : 70 - 115 % PO (what I consider to be a bare min). I installed the new dirver pack and enableing hardware acceleration gives me 24fps - up from 22fps - but still not what you guys are getting.

here is my spec:
AMD 1.33Ghz (266fsb)
256MB SDRAM
Ti4200 64Mb
Sound Blaster Live Player (not 5.1)

Screen settings:
1024 x 768
Medium Textures, car, trackside, no advanced lighting, no reflections, low shadows, no bump mapping.

any suggestions? I would like to keep to 28 - 30 fps - do I need a new sound card - will it make a difference?

I didnt seem to get the performance increase most people did. I turned sound acceleration up and the game ran jerky, but when I left it how it was before the game does run smoother.

One thing I did notice though was the fact it totally changed my bass and trebel settings. I used to have it on 50% bass and 50% trebel, but that now sounds tinny. Bit like having your engine cover replaced for a tin one really. I find 60% bass and 40% trebel a good mix.

Fuinny you should say that, Neil. I found that it did the opposite and made all of my sounds really bassy. I had to put the treble up to about 75% and the bass at 50%.

Also, it has done nasty things to my game! I did qualifying for a race, and I went into the race. My PO at the start, usually around 150%, was at 900%. So now I'm unable to race. Fiddling with sound acceleration in GP4 resulted in it going down to 500%.

In qualifying and practice, the PO won't go above 100%, but in the race it's no good! Need to fiddle around more!

Oh yes, and when I calibrated the graphics, it told me to run at 8fps, instead of the usual 22!

Hell, I've just bought a SB Audigy (in replacement of my old Live! card) and it didn't include any driver cd. The reseller told me "You'll find the drivers on the Creative website", but there are only updates which require the INSTALLATION CD!
Anyone know where I can find a copy of the drivers for Win98 (and XP, possibly..)
Just one more thing... it works OK under Linux with the former Live! driver...

Okay - been doing a lot of testing and I can say that yes its better, but not totally fixed. I was getting 30fps - with hardware accelleration off. With it on, I now get 22fps.

I have a feeling that mu rather old sound card is the problem - all the guys that are happy - what sound card are you running and visa versa.

I cant make up my mind which I would rather have - 30fps and the screaching cat or 22fps and the buzzing hornet.

On a second point - even with full sound on, does anyone else get the feeling that there is too much "air" mixed in with the engine. Its not raspy enough.

I'm getting a good result. Previously got 22fps with hardware acceleration off. Now I'm getting 30fps with it on or off - and I'm getting the same speed with both Windows 2000 and XP! At last I'm happy!

Hardware is: AMD Athlon XP1800+, GeForce 4 Ti4200 (64MB), 256MB SDRAMM and original SB Live!
