That 21" was only the rim wide. In -79 the tyre it self was more like:
23/59-13 in the front and 38/68-13 and that means for the rear that
it was 380mm (or 15";) wide tread and 680mm (almost 27";)in diameter.

Ferrari for an example used a 19" wide rear rim in -79.

In -93 the narrower rear wheel was used with a tread that was 330 mm (13";) (I have a tyre at home)
The rear rim was 15" wide and in -92 for an example the rim was 18" as a max wide.

I have not looked at the dimensions for -82

Modern ruels

12.4 Wheel dimensions:
12.4.1 Complete wheel width must lie between 305 and 355mm
when fitted to the front of the car and between 365 and 380mm
when fitted to the rear.
12.4.2 Complete wheel diameter must not exceed 660mm when fitted
with dry-weather tyres or 670mm when fitted with wet-weather tyres.
12.4.4 Wheel bead diameter must lie between 328 and 332mm.

........FODA-SE ESTA UM CARRO FILHO DA PUTA, MESMO DO CARALHAO, FODA-SE INCRIVEL MESMO, Thanks Phillip for having tested, is brilliant, I am very surprised with the result, as the mod's tires, this is what is closer to 1982, the 79 mod tires, the front wheel is very small in height, and rear wheel and much larger in size, so this mod Tire here in this renault is suitable,
thanks once again to Phillip, thanks bro ;-)

No problem, just glad help :-)
As you can see the tyre rules is not to different for the rear. Same tyre and rim diameter
the big differens is at the front.
