See the F12002 v GP4 thread started by David Watson where I have asked the same question. He is the man who claims 31fps on PIII 600 and GEforce2 MX !!!!!

These drivers are either an incredible leap forward for gamekind or:

1) PIII 600 + GEforce 2 MX when run upside down perform like they're on steroids.

2) He has been drinking too much fine NZ wine

3) Too much rugby cause brain fade

No Offence M8 !

Hey seemsnice how did u know I was a New Zealander :)

oh by the way i hate rugby the only good sport in the world is Motorsport and for your information I can have all detail on full EXCEPT for environment mapping and I get 31fps

Take heed of the messages on speeding up frame rate,i am using these drivers on a g2 mx200 64 meg,and with a few things turned off agp adjusted to 256 apt in bios as i have 512 ddr ram. sound hardware down 1 click, If when you have updated drivers,go into advanced in the graphix tab and click on your cars id,s tab,go in and set 3d to best performance,it will be on best quality as standard, when you test your graphics that you have adjusted manually, there is a cockpit veiw adj set it to 0%,test your settings i can garunteee you will see an improvement,i am running mine at 50fps,not the full 60 it offering, and it really does fly, good luck.

How do I know you're a KIWI ? - how about email address:

....apx0.paradise.net.NZ

Are you using 29.80 or 28.90 drivers ?

I have just found some 29.80 drivers here:

[www.tweakersasylum.com] but first glance says they are Gainward Drivers.

Also on same site is benchmarks for all Nvidia drivers and it shows 29.42 was worst 28.90 and 29.80 much the same. I have downloaded the said 29.80 drivers and will test.

I still cannot understand how you can get 31fps maxed out - is that at 640x480 or what ?

If this is true then the MOON MUST BE MADE OF CHEESE (as stated many times by a regular here) or on the other hand ..........

We should all emigrate to NZ where the clean cool air makes GP4 go like @!#$ off a shovel on last years hardware !!!!!!!

Good tip I'll give it a go. Can you adjust cockpit view to 0% though?

I just been fiddling with this cockpit view - it appears like you're looking down a telescope the wrong way - everything is smaller and further away at 0% and more normal at 100%. You would need VERY LONG arms to reach steering wheel - perhaps thats why there are no arms - LOL

It may?? be quicker - it gives that effect but doesn't look realistic IMHO.
Somewhere around 50% - 75% is a compromise.

In GP3 & 2k the cockpit view was shown as degrees up to 130 I think ? wider view looked a more realistic human viewing "angle of sight" and you could see better any cars in the mirror blindspots. It also didn't seem to affect performance - but GP3 was better in this respect anyway IMHO.

I havn't measured fps in race (dont know how !) but in graphics options it makes no difference, then on my pc not much does - I always get 25-26 fps whatever the settings.

How do you measure fps in race ??

PO never varies much on my pc either whether set on mins or maxed out.
but it looks like I am wearing somebody elses glasses it is so blurry on the min settings and difference in performance between medium and max is negligable so I prefer mostly maxed out.

How do you measure this 50 - 60 fps ??? In race ? In practice ? In options ?

The common thing here is that low spec geforce cards are giving better numbers than ge3's, WHY ???

It isn't the settings in Windows or GP4 I have tried them all in MANY combinations and 1 at a time - fact is they hardly change anything when testing in graphics options.

Seemsnice, Gainward made the drivers but they work for any Nvidia based card because they are reference drivers :)

oh and i'm getting 31fps with everything maxed out except for environment mapping on 1024 x 768

Neil, My spec is as follows:

P III 600mhz
256mb SDRAM
7200rpm 40gig ATA 133 Hard Drive
GeForce2 MX 32MB
Windows 98 SE (with OS patches and chipset drivers installed)

Nothing special as u can see but if i have anything on except for environment mapping I can get 31fps. If I turn textures and a few other things down I can get 35fps.

I'm not putting anyone down but I cant understand why people with machines that can crap all over mine performance wise are getting so low fps. I must admitt when I was using 29.42 WQHL's I was getting about 17 or 18fps but then I grabbed the GainWard designed 29.80 WQHL's and then the fps just rocketed up.

oh by the way my machine is in no way overclocked. it's just a standard machine.

Its all nice and well to have 31-35 fps in 1024x768. But its not that great if PO is above 100. Perhaps you could post how high your PO is on the first lap of a quickrace in the rain at Monaco David?

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.
