I know Morbid has already posted the settings he has and how he can run GP4 on his system, but I have a very different system to his and so I thought I would show the performance I get.

SYSTEM:

2ghz Pentium 4 Processor
256mb DDR Ram
Geforce 4 mx420

GRAPHICS CARD SETTINGS:

Anisotropic Filtering - 8 x
Anti-Aliasing - 2 x

GRAND PRIX 4 GRAPHICS SETTINGS:

Reflections - off (look crap on and save fps anyway)
Textures - Medium
Pit crew - Medium
Standard view - All objects
Mirrors - No trackside objects
Environment mapping - Off
Bump mapping - Off
Advanced lighting - Off
(any others I've missed at medium)

GRAND PRIX 4 GRAPHICS SETTINGS (ADDITIONS):

Heat haze - On
Video Screens - Off
Arcade and TV overlays - On
Mirrors - On
(tell me if I've missed any out again)

With all these settings, on 800x600 resolution I get 24fps, which I've grown to love, and after time is pretty fast anyway. On the next resolution, 1024x768, I get 22fps. The great thing is, with any number of cars on screen the fps stays the same - no slowdown whatsoever.

Very interesting to hear - I've got near identical when my Geforce 4 420mx turns up tomorrow I hope, although only 1 ghz AMD Athlon but I hope this will cope. HOw are the textures on medium setting - if you set these full do you get a big slowdown or does it not matter that much?

Yeah trust me you get a BIG slow down. As soon as you do any of the following things, you are in fps trouble:

Turning shadows onto high (keep on medium / low - not much difference between low and medium)
Turning textures high - Looks good but gameplay is utter rubbish with it.

Others affect but not as bad as those two.

btw, in another thread, I was quick to comment how bad GP4 seemed. However, I've played it for about 4 hours overall now, and had a full 58 lap race in Melbourne - this game is amazing. The graphics are so good - although you will need a decent card (Geforce mx 420 IS enough) although 28 fps you will probably need a Geforce Ti methinks. However, 24fps is more than enough for this game - uhhh this game is so nice!

ooooooooh one thing actually. The heat haze....there is a glitch, hopefully corrected for official release. Cars in certain parts of the track suddenly go translucent, so the heat haze is taking effect, but the cars go fuc*ed. Minor problem tho. The car liveries are a bit shite but RH will fix that no probs.

Another thing.... you peeps with low processors, you are absolutely fine methinks. I have a 2gz processor but as said everywhere else, this game eats at your graphics card, not your processor. FPS does not change nearly as dramatically as on GP3 when the PO goes above 100.

Your right Cai. My 350mhz beast of a pc only really struggles in menus.
My 8mb gfx card is also fine on 1024 by wosname.

Yeah, I was thinking it was all a little low considering your specs...maybe the 2x FSAA is unecessary? I thought it slowed it all down horribly? Probably I'm wrong.

I cant stand it that slow. 24fps is just about right, anything below is really nasty and slow for me. Besides, teh graphics are superb with the settings I have on anyways.

There really isnt a lot of difference, but there is in fps, so it makes more sense.

cai, how do you know that GP4 eats up the gfx card?

Cos I seen it with my own eyes. It leaves the processor alone, and gobbles down the graphics card quicker than you can see 'this tastes like chips'.

G'day all...

Thats the best news I've heard all day. You see, I only have a 433 mhz processor, with a 64 MB Geforce2 MX (not Ti, it was too late, Ellis :S) I'm by no means expecting anything, all I wanna do is be able to play the game!
