So to edit the Tga files (almost their psd-files)you need Photoshop or Paint shop pro. To convert them into tex-file you need the Tex-Editor.

When I export into GP4, the GP4.exe breaks. The editor that I'm using is Carset Creator 4 and the program to edit the TGA files is Paint Shop Pro. HEEEEEELLLLLLLP :-O

What do you want to edit on cars? Tex or lod files?

The best tool to edit .tex car files is TexResizer.

1-Open cars.wad from your GP4 folder (by using wadupdater). Then , extract wad. (a carwad folder is created with all your tex and lod files)
2-Open TexResizer, then choose the tex file you want to modify. Save all tga files from the tex file you've opened.
3- Modify the tga files (with paint shop pro or Photoshop)then save it.
4-In TexResizer, load all the tga files you have modified. Then select save .tex file
5- Now your tex file is modified, save it into your cars.wad folder
6-With wadupdater, select your carswad folder , then click on "create wad" and replace it into your GP4 folder.

That's the simplier way to do for me and no GP4 crash!

tell me a car you wanna update in your wad. Make sure the lods are named in what team/order you want it. You don't have to rename any tex files.

well its all depending what order you want.

Default order is from the year 2001 and that was:

1. Ferrari
2. Mclaren
3. Williams
4. benetton
5. BAR
6. Jordan
7. Arrows
8. Sauber
9. Jaguar
10. Minardi
11. Prost

So if you want now a car that you have downloaded want to be in slot 5 for BAR then you have to rename the lods to car_bar_car1_lod_0 and car_bar_car2_lod_0 and you continue for all lods. The TEX files you don't change names, NEVER !!! Then ingame team 5 BAR will be changed into your new car.

Paint.net doesn't support PSD files but the best freeware existing is

The Gimp You can do whatever you want, as Photoshop, excepted that it is absolutely free! ;)

A GP4 file is an extension wich contains 3D elements of the game( like car_carname_car1_lod_0 for example).
