An idea for new qualifying format (Needs a grid start editor)

Posted by Buzz Hornet
Hi all, I was just playing around in GP4 with different ideas and suggestions to simulate as close as possible the new knock-out qualifying format. The best method I found was the following.

- To use a practice session to conduct the qualifying session Q3 lasting for 15 minutes with all cars (human and cc) on track.
- Start another practice session (if you want to use a different performance file you will need to exit the game and load through GPx Patch). In Q2 knock out the slowest runners (P17 - P22) by selecting the drivers in practice this will ensure that the human driver and the remaining drivers (P1 - P16) are in the session only.
- In Q3 knock out the slowest runners again (P11-P17) by again selecting the drivers in practice this will ensure that the human driver and the remaning 9 drivers are in the session only.

Some advantages you can play with the fuel loads for each practice session to try and simulate as close as possible. I.e) A race fuel load in Q3.

But all this is useless and wasteful, but if we had a grid start editor and you could place yourself on the grid when you qualified it would be fantastic. What do you think wishful thinking or basis for consideration for an editor to made.
I would say basis for consideration if it can be done of course.
I'm using this method and a text editor (to edit the perf.txt file) to make the starting grid. It works perfectly !
:-)
which archive I have that to edit?

But you can't set human grid positions?

Interesting mate, can you share the secret?
In your perf file (make a copy before), after the qualifying session, just change the qualif parameter for each driver.

For example :

** GP3edit - Performance File **

The starting grid will be :

1. Alonso
2. Hamilton
3. Fisichella
etc...
yes, i've done that before to simulate actual qualifying results, it works perfectly

Thanks but as the human selected driver you would need to contest qualifying, if you skip qualifying it places you automatically at the back of the grid.
I'm doing this in multiplayer, try with "quick race".
Thanks I'll look into it :)

Please can you tell me what the individual numbers in the perf file mean and what they influence in the game?

Thanks
Paul
perf numbers are horsepower, first in qually and then in race (and practice), the 0 is damage probability (set to none here).

The drivers numbers are grip level in qually, range, may go up or down by this amount randomly, then the same again for race (and practice).

I think race is before qualy

yes, qualifying is first, then race perf values :)

oops, it's one or the other... Tony's made far more perfs than I have :)

In GP3 it was qual/race, but now i think its race/qual - xav85 has race/qual, so lets trust him :p

I was wondering that because when I do my perf files I did it as qual/race, with a higher number for qual, but when I got to the race the cars were faster than in qualifing, so I'm guessing its supposed to be race/qual.
