What do I need to play GP4

Hi,

I've been playing GP3 for ages now and I think it's finally time to make the switch to GP4.
Now, what do I need to play this game and enjoy some really good graphics?

I've got a PC that I'm willing to upgrade, it's got a amd 2800 cpu and about 1GB of ram.
But I need to buy a new agp card because mine is crap. But I've got no idea wich one. And are there any other things I should change?

So, what's my best option, can anyone help me out?

I'm using:

Dell Dimension 3000, 2.8GHz, GeForce FX 5200 PCI (256mb ram) and 768mb of RAM and get full speed (30fps with everything maxed out) by default but need to turn a few things down when running mods; including fps to about 14-15, which isn't too bad for my comp.

Anything above that should be fine, methinks. :)

Would extra RAM speed up my modded game?

You surely need a good graphic card to play the new mods in high quality.
CPU is even more important...but nearly 3 GHz is very good.

If I recall correctly someone once said that the relation was about 60:40 for CPU and graphic card.

I have 2.67 GHz...this is still good even though today more than 3 GHz are standard. But I cannot play GP4 in high quality because I still have a bad graphic card (GF4 4200 Ti).

i would say 40:60 or 50:50 CPU and video card respectively. with my experience for last 3 years i changed my config majorly and found out that video card was really crucial in order to play with AA and AF on. REcently i changed my processor to E6850 from E6600 and found none difference with same video card.

yes, without AA and AF medium end video card is more than sufficient like 6600GT if processor is GOOD. in this case i can say Processor alone powerful is enough so 60:40(CPU & VIDEO CARD). But without AA and AF GP4 sucks , no offence to anyone. it's my opinion

I play GP4 on a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11S Notebook, and it has Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 1,8 GHz. 2GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 8400 GT GPU. I looks very well on my notebook and I play somewhere aroud the 36 fps.

Thanks for the tips.

So what about this AGP card?

SAPPHIRE X1950PRO Vista AGP Radeon X1950PRO 512MB DDR3, TV-out, Double DVI, Retail

Is it good enough to play GP4 with new hi-def carshapes?

Yep, nothing wrong with that, I found one for US$154 on google ;-) Get ATI traytools, makes the overclocking and setting profiles for the tv easy

Yesterday I tried the game (with mods) with my new AGP card, the SAPPHIRE X1950PRO 512 DDR3.
Thanks to this card there's a lot of detail.

The CPU, for now, is a Sempron 2600 (about 1,8 Ghz) and 1,5Gb of DDR memory.

The game is fairly smooth. Only at the start it slows down a bit (about 130 to 150 proc. occupancy)

Now I'm gonna try to find a new cpu (athlon 64 3700+, 2,4 Ghz) and motherboard (ASUS K8N-E Deluxe).

With this I hope to be able to play without any problems.
