Hello,

I'm trying to create a MOD for GP4 and I was wondering if it's possible to change the music in the menu in GP4. It would be wonderful if some one gave me an editor or something ;)

If you use CSM, just put mp3 files in the music folder and call them tk1.mp3 tk2.mp3 and tk3.mp3.
you don't have to include 3 files though. you can also just use 1 or 2

Could I change the music even if I'm not making a mod?

Guys what format do the music files need to be in? I've tried several times to just drop in a mp3 file in the music folder and rename the file as specified, letting CSM do the rest - but it NEVER works for me.....:(

"Never works" isn't detailed enough. What happens?
It must be a stereo mp3.
Does CSM give an error message about the format or does nothing happen at all, as if CSM doesn't see the files.
In that case you might have windows file extensions disabled and rename the file to tk1.mp3 but in reality the file name is tk1.mp3.mp3

Do you have music in other populair mods? If yes then the feature is working because almost every mod i've seen has mp3 files included instead of the gp4 format to save bandwidth

Zaz, it acts as though no change was made at all. I rename the file per your instuctions, and place it in the appropriate folder, but whichever file I replace simply ceases to function.

For instance if I don't like song #3 and wish to replace it I rename an mp3 to tk3.mp3, and place it on the mods music folder. After doing this only the first two tunes will play as if there is no third tune at all. No other problems...

You mentioned I might have windows file extensions disabled. How do I check this to see?

But the mods you have downloaded do have their own music right? That probably means that CSM is doing what it is supposed to be doing.
I still suspect there's something wrong with your filenames.

Windows, by default, hides the file extensions from the user for known filetypes (like mp3)
Therefore when you rename your mp3, let's say, 'Joy division - transmission' to 'tk1.mp3' then Windows adds the mp3 extension without letting you see it.
So the .mp3 part you've added becomes part of the name.
So in reality it is tk1.mp3.mp3

To solve this you might want to display file extensions in Windows.
You can do this by going to the extra->folder options->display menu
There's a checkbox for that.

But perhaps it would be easier for you to rename the file without the extension.
So 'The Cure - A Forest' becomes simply 'tk1' as it is already a mp3 and you don't have to fiddle with the extension.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll give it another try! :)

I still can't get this to work. In all my mods the files in the music folder are named tk1.st1, tk2.st1, tk3.st1. None of them have the extension .mp3.

If I drop an .mp3 into the folder and rename it for example "tk1.mp3" it will not play. If I name it only "tk1" it won't play. If I rename the mp3 file to tk1.st1 it won't play. All I get is white noise for whatever file I place in this folder.

I wish it was a simple as dropping a mp3 into the folder and CSM doing the rest, but this isn't working for me.....

Seems you dont understand the concept. Ill explain.

Its correct to name the files tk1.mp3, tk2.mp3, tk3.mp3.
But this is only to put it in last minute before recompiling the mod for last time.
To work in game its a different matter.
You need to search for your "compilled mod with music" and installed it.
Then you will see the 3 music files tk1.st1, tk2.st1, tk3.st1 in the music folder. Now test in game, it should work :)

Cheers :)

You said you maid a mod?
Put the mp3. files named as before.
Inside Csm right click and press "export carset".
That will compile your mod as i tried to say before.
When finished compilling, remove or move your mod from the gpsaves folder.
Last, install your mod using the file you just compiled by doblecliking on it.

Cheers :)

No. I simply want to change some of the music tracks in existing mods...

Just rename the .mp3 to tk1.mp3, put it into Data\Music, and the next time you start that mod CSM will convert it to .st1 format. Just be careful if extensions are hidden or not
It has always worked for me - sned me the .mp3 if you like - maybe it has a problem?

There is a program that converts MP3 to the required GP4 sounds, but I'm at work, and I dont have access to my PC. So can't say what it is at the moment. But I used that program. Hopefully I'll remember tonight when I get home, and let you know.

To change the songs simply do the following:

- make sure you have the file in .mp3 format

- rename it to "tk1" or " tk2" etc.

- paste the file into both of the other folders:
- ...... GP 4\sound\PC
- ...... GP 4\GPSAVES\Carsets\[MOD FOLDER]\Data\Music (if using a CSM mod)

That is it! Voila. Below is a concrete example of where my files are located and where you have to paste the renamed MP3s

D:\Games\GP 4\sound\PC
D:\Games\GP 4\GPSAVES\Carsets\2006\Data\Music (if using a CSM mod)
