I think and I hope that with Vista, GP4
will not go the way of the DODO.
SticKing with XP for this Baby.
There is no need to upset this game.

I tested with Vista and Forceware 97.46 and my PO is double (80-90 instead of 40-50) under Vista than under XP with same settings but 2D-3D sound acceleration are both disabled under Vista (Audigy).

I tried GP4 under Vista and same conclusion as Laurent => PO * 2
So I reinstalled XP to play GP4

I tested the 100.64 beta and it's still the same.

I installed the Nforce4 PCI Express Root Port update via Windows Update and I now have GP4 running quite well under Vista. I would say PO is perhaps 10-20% higher than in XP but it still plays quite smoothly. I also found that the very latest Nvidia graphics drivers (100.65, official) made a big difference.

Tested Gp4 a while ago with the release candidate and even before that with the betas and now tried it again with the final.

Specs of testing machine:
P4 2.66 GHZ
1024 RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro (catalyst 7.2)

Gp4 out of the box with Highest settings with 8X AA and 4xAF @ 1280*1024.
Bumpmapping off, dynamic lighting static and heathaze + videowalls off @ 28 fps

XP PO Start ~ 85 PO Race ~ 50
2K PO Start ~ 75 PO Race ~ 45
Vista PO Start ~160 PO Race ~ 100

There should be some performance loss, because unlike previous DirectX versions, DX10 doesn't contain a 'true' DX9 and 8 and 7 etc.
Instead, it now emulates DX8 for Gp4, but still.... It's quite a big performance hit.
So I did some other tests. I turned all eyecandy off and stopped a whole lot of services that are running by default.
So now it's:
Vista PO Start ~ 95 PO Race ~55

Almost like XP, but just a miniscule hit in performance.
But you'll have to trim the system drastically.

I just tried 100.65 and they seem to boost framerate by about 10% (you might need to re-do a graphical test and apply).

Vista sucks, not enough Driver support around at the moment, save the cash, get a cheap copy of XP Pro, and wait for at least Service pack 1

Just a word to tell I tried 101.41 beta forcewares and PO is back to the high levels of pre-100.65 drivers with a single card.
Maybe it is better with an SLI configuration though.
