You can try a classic three point lighting. It takes the rendering time down and it makes your scene come to life. I see you're using a bowl as environment, try closing it instead of using a white plane.

Enzo, despite noise, the scene was very good, now has more in the light of the environment, is more pleasant to see.

Just started doing renders today, but I'm having a tiny issue - I'm absolutely new to 3dsmax so probably doing something stupid.

How do I get the ground plane to extend indefinitely? At the moment I have a problem with the plane not being big enough, and getting black areas - I've uploaded an image to show the problem.

Would massively appreciate any help.

@datvtam- change the black to white by the environment settings :)

thanks kaid! that's great..

here's renders of my helmet (thanks to apfonseca) and red bull

three (!) more questions -

what's the best way of creating a realistic floor surface / cool looking surface? (something like this [img96.imageshack.us] - I remember also seeing a cool chrome blue tiled floor by takku)

how do you go about creating a slightly darker enviornment like in this render (http://people.freenet.de/imtec/Abumet.jpg)? (I'm using 3ds max 9 and brazil rs)

what are the best rims/treads to use for renders? the ones that i used for the red bull render don't seem quite right - i've seen people use much nicer ones.
