I would have used the search function, but its mucking up on me...and this is also sorta a technical question I'm looking for too.

I'm looking at upgrading to a S939 MB/AMD 64 3200+ Venice core from my current P4 S478 2.8 Ghz Northwood processor (your all probably thinking 2.8 is pretty damn good) but I think this is a second generation Northwood processor (stupid Intel don't know how to rename their processor products and it gets confusing) and not the latest generation of their processors (its a year and bit old? maybe a bit more when it was challenging with the Athlon XPs line of processors).

So I was wondering what difference would I see in the FPS for an AMD 64 3200+ processor whereas I'm getting 42 fps @ 100 PO @ Monaco on 1280x1024 and starting @160-200 at the back with 2xAA and 2xAF using the highest LOD for cars (even running in low res I can't seem to get higher than FPS and PO is the same, i think my CPU is bottlenecking the FPS. Thats the problem with my processor, I struggle to get past 40 fps mark.

6600GT AGP 128 MB Leadtek video card. I see a lot of 3d Mark benchmarks quite a lot quicker than my own even though I have pretty much the same specs cept the CPU.

Any ideas of how significant the performance increase would be?

Not really a 'techie' so to speak...but ive got an amd 64 3200+ in mine with a gig of ram, and i get around 50 fps with 1280x1024, and all aa/af turned all the way up...

But that's all with an x800xt humming along underneath it all....

I have some problems too. I have p4 2.8 Ghz, 512 MB Ram, GForceFX5200 256 MB. I`m getting 25 fps, on 1024x728 res. How can i increase the performance of the game? Why my screens aren't so good as the ss in that ss topic? If i get 1gb ram it will increase?

Thx

You'll need a better graphics card to really increase fps, such as a 6600GT or something similar, and that should give you around 40fps (rough guess, I don't own one myself) with everthing turned on.

But my video card has 256 Mb. That isn't enough? And i heard that Gp4 doesn't use the video card a lot. Can someone send me a f1graphics.cfg according to these configs?

Wrong, I believe it was b-tone in fact who found that when he upgraded his video card to the 6600GT, and had a jump of more than 1 or 2 fps. And a higher core DDR of your graphics card helps, but a higher clock-speed, is more helpful, along with all the other goodies that NVIDIA and ATi pack into their cards now-a-days.

If you have 512mb of system RAM, you ought to be fine, but 1gig is much better to make up for a graphics card, or the processing power of your system.

So i have to change my RAM and where can i get a good f1graphics.cfg? I don't know how to configure it.

i have a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ =1,66GHZ but is faster as my sisters P4 1,8GHZ , the next CPU is a AMD 64Bit because , i don´t like Intel , it´s for the price too slow .

To be honest, I'd start upgrading to Dual Core soon, because the new Windows is going to have a more friendly dual core environment, as will a lot of games by at least 2007, so in the next 10 months is a good time to get a proper system upgrade...

I have an AMD 3500+ / 1Gb/ 6600GT and I usualy play GP4 in 1024*768 (windows) at 60fps and OP around 100 on start grid and cockpit and 50-60 on chase cam or in the middle of the track. But this is an approximative result.
I also used 8xAA/AF and OP goes to 110 sometimes and is much closer to 80 the rest of the time.
All with Default GP4 cars and tracks (well, at least for Monaco :))

What does the 3500+ run at (Or yours at any rate ;))? I was looking into an FX-55 / 57 or a 4800+ (dual core), but I don't think I'll be getting a new pc for a little while yet on my minimal income :(

It is intend to run at 2200 but I am able to push it to 2400 (only some very CPU dependant games are suffering like Doom3 but John Carmack told Doom3 won't be overclock friendly).

2.4 ain't bad really, I think an fx-57 runs at 2.6 standard, and a 4800+ runs at 2.4, but both overclock to 2.9 / 2.6 respectively

:S

this is really interesting

I have a P4 3.2 GHz 1 Gig o' Ram (2 x 512 MB) a 256MBGeForce FX5500, and onboard sound....

I only get about 30 fps and PO from Track Cams is 200-250 at start, depending on how many on-screen objects there are....
and I'm also using 1024x768 for resolution

I have a few settings turned up but I really don't know what is destroying my PO I'm assuming getting a sound card would help?

I got a p4 3.8 with 1GB of Ram and a 6800GT 256 MB card

with that i Run AA and AF at 16X and get a PO at the start of about 150 and 60-70 everywhere else

Up untill a few weeks back i had a 2.4 processer and the game ran like a dog! GP4 love the processer

It seems there are a number of factors to what affect how your PC runs GP4. What I quote is running it with no applications in the background, ie Media Player or anything similar. If you run the game "clean" (I always do or my pc just kills itself) then you'll get the real performance out of it, if you have stuff in the background all the time, then you'll notice a performance slip

Yeah those programs will in the background will reduce your PO slightly, also depending on your onboard sound you could probably buy a dedicated sound card on your M/B, I found that to also help GP4's FPS. I use to use the onboard sound with my M/B but couldn't activate "Other cars sound" in the sound option otherwise my PO would skyrocket above 200...too much processing from the CPU to emulate the sound. Once I bought an SB Audigy 2, I was able to turn this option to full + EAX without any PO hit.

@Lok2K: What if you used hi-res 2005 cars and tracks? Would there be a huge difference in FPS/PO? and also quickly, whats it like when its full monsoon raining @Monaco from the back with your current settings?

Because if I did upgrade I'd be hovering around your figures I'm guessing (Theres no difference in FPS/PO on my comp either using 1024x768 or 1280x1024). I just wanna have a rough idea of how good GP4 would run with a 3200+ Venice compared to my P4 2.8 Northwood. Apparently the MO revision of the Northwood processor kills the D1 revision (my processor ~ end of 2002/start of 2003). If I was able to run @60 fps with the settings I'm on now I'd be happy.

I don't use mirrors or heat haze because they're make the PO go crazy as well.

II made tests before to check my perfs when I changed my video card and one of the test was to run Monaco in Moonsoon...

Hmm, beware, all the results have been made with a 2000+ CPU, my previous cards and vsynch ON (!). I should update it with my new scores.

Hmm, I havn't noted it but I think I used a resolution of 1600*1200.
