My first proper go in Mental Ray, still needs a bit of improvement imo, but it's getting there.

The tires take years with GI though, at 54,000 polies they would though eh? ;) This one's with area lights, looking to improve the definition there for starters...

Buggered if I know, shape's fault not mine as Enzojz said :P Plus I'm using 4 spotlights, although I'll probably turn the shadows off on them and just add an omni overhead, or maybe one shadow-casting spot.

Render time was 4 minutes

I'm bored of having a system that takes 10 minutes to launch a program while rendering for 2 hours, and besides it was my first attempt.

Maybe when I get an badly needed new system I'll mess around some more

Assuming the RTime is like 2 hours, and it is very accurate and all
How do you set up that scene + Lights + Materials + Rendersettings..

Do you have everything in mind then..? And do you know exactly what happens if you deselect some settings in the menu's? Do you have that knowledge..?

Or do you indeed make some testrenders before without.. let's say shadows, to fasten up the RTime

Would like to know which things you do when you are making a render.. And also, is this for your fun, or is it really something you need, like I don't know ;)

I would appreciate any answer mate :)

I fixed all the normals last night (oh!that took me 4 hours while in ZM I just need 30 mintues to do the same!), it looks good .No polys added , so the total polycount should below 10000.

For each surfaces , I used four , one is logos and colors , one is bump map , one is for reflection and the rest is for light setting.

sadly my network had some problem at that time and now uploaded
I like the metal-look surface , not realistic carbon fiber one , it give me a feeling of weight and could be touched ! However I did some renders in carbon fiber look (white ones).

The render time , on average is 20 minutes , I'm using a Intel 845GM + Centrion 1.6M here ;-) Yes , render in mental ray at 320x240 or 640x480 with only arae shadows not blured one is an effective way to test , you can get a main idea oh how it looks by 80% , then I set to 1600x1200 , blured shadows.
