BTCC Mod: V1.00 Release Info

Hi Guys

The good news is that the BTCC Mod still has the 11 July as it's release date.
BTCC Mod V1.00 will be the first release, but it will not be fully complete.
However V1.80 will be an addon update which will add the extras to V1.00 giving you the fully completed mod for you all to enjoy...
V1.80 will be released near christmas, which will make a cool present.

Work on the 2nd BTCC Mod (BTCC '05 Mod) is well underway and is set to be released on the 25 march 2006.
Also work on a WTCC Mod is looking good, But thats still early days.

Wow an 8 year bump crazy
The BTCC Mod was never released due to an email from the official copyright telling me and my team to ... "stop production of this mod and no further action will be taken" ...
They stated that I could continue if all the car manufacturer names, team names and decal designs and the driver names and helmet designs were all changed, including any sponsorship logos or any other names & images linked to the BTCC at the time (2005), so after a long time thinking what to do, I felt to drop the project, because after all the changes made, I felt it was not the BTCC Mod we all wanted and the series and GP4 needed and wanted a true BTCC Mod.
This Mod was one of the hardest projects I've ever had to drop, because it was almost finished, I still have most of the files around my HDD ... Sad, but true story, which I still get emailed about to this day
It's nice to know that the BTCC Mod struck a cord to so many people, around so many GP4 communities

Why not leak the release under a false name, as I've seen many others do with mods of this type in the past.

I don't know but I think we should be thanking our lucky stars that FOM don't come knocking on our doors with our mods.

From what I can remember, I think it was the Motor Sports Association (MSA) who got into contact with me about the mod and that I have not purchased a license from them to use the BTCC series and I had the risk of being sued for illegal use of a licensed product, unless major changes were made, which I was not willing to do
After talking to some people I knew at the time who is in this line of business said "this can happen and they have the right to do so, to protect the image of the series they control, most license holders don't bother with things like this (mod) unless money is made out of it, but some smaller holders just don't like someone using a license they have not paid for"
I did ask them about the cost for the BTCC license, which was about £20.000 and I was not paying that for rights to a free mod and because Codemasters still had the series license contracted to them, I would of needed to talking with their CEO's about paying them off for the license, which was a bit to much for me, so I dropped the project frightening but funny at the same time

It is odd that A1GP and BTCC were so intent on stopping mods, but as said above, at least FOM haven't followed that standard!
