3 2048s can be downsized, but honestly I don't get the point of using 3... you can get perfectly sharp textures with just a single one on an F1 car, and using two on a sportscar. Remember that the absolute maximum resolution people run games at is really 1600x1200, so there's an obvious limit to how high detail you can go with the textures before you can't tell the difference (I cba to do the maths, I'm sure you get what I mean tho).
As to Race Speeder, he actually makes a good point in a *very* roundabout/sweary way :p I picked up on something chet said about the inner part of the sidepods, seems to me that you're doing them the low detail way just with a really smooth mesh. Might be an idea to build them as they are in reality, which is quite 'hollow' with the radiators angled in there. There's a nice pic of the RBR from Monaco somewhere which illustrates this nicely, I'll see if I can find it.
Might need some normals work too, that's something I noticed in particular with the 'old' FW27.
