Games loading problems

Guys,

This question has probably been raised numerous times before, and may I appologise if I bore some of you, but I'm going mental here.

I have just picked up the game after a couple of years away from it. I have loaded the Full version (plus the patch v9.6) onto my PC, but I cannot get the game to load. I have read some strings on the 'autorun' icon not working and have tried all other '.exe' start points with no luck.
I have also tried to install a 'noCD' patch too see if it was that. It wasn't!
I have also tried both v8.1 and v9.0 DirectX. Bummed out there too.

HEEEELLLLLLLLLP (please).

What patches should be installed and in what order to get the base game running?

Symptoms are as follows:

Click on the icon to initiate loading
'SafeDisk' screen appears and I can hear the CD spinning up.
SafeDisk screen goes and my monitor goes blank (as if to allow the Title sequence to start).
CD stops and the Desktop re-appears. No error messages, no GP4 tag on the bottom of the screen. Nothing!

PC it 2.4Ghz P4 with 64Mb grafix, 256Mb ram, SB 5.1 running XP Home etc etc etc
Had no problems with anything b4.

The same for you like i said already in another thread. In the message list here in the forum at the top you have a sticky with all the information for newbies to update the game!

I would reinstall your game and read that sticky and do what it says to patch the game and for updating the game!

I have followed this guide to the letter with identical results.

very strange!

when i do a fresh install of gp4 i dont use the patch 9.6 because mine doesnt load either.i use the decrypted exe with no problems..once ive got all my updates installed i then make my gp4 installable so i dont have to install the original game i just install the one ive just made.my gp4 never crashes at all.

does your cpu run HT?

if sodownload gpx patch and set CPU to 0
this may do it i dunno

i just listen to everyone elses ideas, my gp4 crashed agez ago and i cant be bothered fixing it :P

and try to run GP4 with GpxPatch in debug mode. Sometimes it helps

I am assuming the by the turm HT, you mean 'hot'. If so, then no.

FYI, I just installed DOOM 3 (out of frustration I can assure you) and that works fine, if a little slow.

Does DirectX 8.1 work better with GP4 than DirectX 9?

HT-Hyper Threading Its on pentium 4 cpus.
