i'm working on some tex stuff and i need opinions :)

DXT is a lossy format so there will always be a little bit of 'bleeding'
i'm fiddling with downsampling and now i wonder what would be best

here you can see 2 different algorithms used.
these are the results after 2 downsamples:
Gp4master

Mine

it looks like gp4master tries to sharpen the textures a bit.
personally i think my method is nicer, but i want opinions.
so give them :P

I always do a manual downsampling :) so yours is the best out of those ;-)

I think that your method looks better .

ah yeah, I've just remembered something :)

GP4Master uses a Resize filter, while you can use a Resample filter to smoothen edges :)

cool.
but this is not a 'manual' downsample ;-) it is being done by a new tex proggy

it's quite simple really :)

1- Open your TGA in your favourite painting program (I use Photoshop)
2- Resize it to half its original size
3- Save as whatever name you may think of ;) and choose 32 bits
4- Resize once again to half, and repeat step 3.
5- Repeat steps 2 and 3 one more time
6- Open GP4Master and go in Tex Workshop
7- Open the tex you downsampled
8- Load every single tga to the mipmap corresponding to its resolution.
9- Save your tex, and you're done :)

If you use Photoshop, you will clearly see that GP4Master uses Nearest filter wich is the worst method but at least, GP4Master creates the four lods in a button click when you need several operations to save 4 tga files with Photoshop and then import them in GP4Master. Anyhow the later is better.

wow, a new tex program, thats great.

your method certainly looks better.

i too am sick of doing the downsamples separately. although i use a batch/automate command in photoshop to generate the downsamples automatically, i still have to put each one in to gpmaster individually.

a couple of suggestions:

could you have the program automatically set the "tex size" to match the size of the .tga used. (ie not have to use tex resizer)

would it be possible to have the program set the type of tex file ie dxt5 or dxt1 or (hopefully) dxt1 with transparency.(as done by lo2k's tex resizer)
