BTW, my problame was white, on screen displays, and all the cars had white diffusers, and also the PO was quite high, even by my standards

Are you refering to the white cars and the white squares where the arcade overlays are? If so, first try setting your desktop colour setting to 32bit.

I think it is. I've changed it a couple of times, but the problem remains anyway. I'm using GPxPatch now for the overlays (it has better ones anyhow), but the white diffusers remain-very annoying! The Minardi texture appears and then disappears as well.

Ah! I think this car texture problem is down to missing .TEX file in the cars.wad. Make sure you have both a hi_ and a standard carbon texture for these cars. There are now several carbon textures being used by the various modders and painters so you will have to go through them.

Should I just reinstall-wouldn't it be simpler?

Could'nt imagine re-installing my GP4 without a serious problem. Can you not just build a new cars.wad from scratch?

Try restoring the cars.wad from the CD.

I cant see your screens but judging by your brief description i have to ask are you running GP4 on a PC with shared video RAM?

If so GP4 doesnt like it. and theres nothing you can do about it.

Don't think so, my machine has a graphics card. I just tried installing a ferrari (that texture went AWOL) but GP4 doesn't start now, so I'll have to reinstall it.
