you can disable your sound card at all through Device Manager, then your fps will increase at 20%! but you won't have sound... but the game will be much faster... the choice is yours... :-)

Depends on your soundcard... if it's software based, of course it will slow the game down... if it's hardware based, then it should only have a tiny effect on performance.

You can also make sure you enable direct memory addressing on your HHD (That's DMA in your HHD properties). The main benifit is speeding up track load times, but I also get slightly improved PO.
Make sure your HHD supports DMA first, but I should think all but the oldest still around are now supported so it's likely that you'll be ok.

Damn...Dude, you're my saver. I can play GP4 now, without any problem. It looks amazing now. Thank you so much.

But, what would happen if, lets say, I want to put the FW26 or the F2004 in the game, it wont be that slow or is it going to be slower?

this is a good tip and increases performance for me as well, however the sound is really crap when it is set to this and somewhat spoils the game for me with this bad sound, so i would rather have a bit of slowdown than the crap sound, but good job finding this out, its great for those with very low end specs:)

How'd you get it to run on a 366? I've got a 2.4GHz Celeron with 256 DDR RAM and a GeForce FX5200 and it still does an impression of a slide show!!

What should I do?

(PS, I've tried the solution above, it worked a bit, but performance is still poor!)

Now found a compromise-haven't tried it with sound yet.

Would AA or AF on my graphics card improve performance as I usually have them turned off 'cos they screwed up GP3

No, AA and AF use a lot of Graphics proccessing power, so if anything it would make performance worse. However, since gp4 seems to be cpu dependant (usually) you could swith them on without a performance hit I expect, but it wont improve FPS.
