Anyone else got a cars.wad this big?

I've just updated my cars wad with all 2004 cars so-far. My cars wad is now 118 MB. Has anyone else managed to get it this big? Is there anyway to make it smaller?

Lol. Mines on 119. game is running like a dream though, P.O. hovers around 100. Does it matter how big the wad size is? I know nothing except how to drive!!

Hmmm, my loading times aren't that bad. But now, with my graphics settings, I can only manage 13fps!

why would it be that big? My cars.wad is 55mb with the below cars installed. As far as 2004 cars go this is what i have installed in my default cars.wad, are there any other 2004 cars that i am missing?

McLaren - Bojan and Wai
Williams - Not Available (i use default car)
Ferrari - Not Available (i use default cars)
Renault - Bojans 2003 car with 2004 livery
Jordan - 2003 car with 2004 livery
Toyota - Erwin & Guyons
Jaguar - Dahie
Minardi - Fongu
Sauber - 2003 car with 2004 livery
BAR - Bojan and Wai
Arrows - Bojan 2003 Version

So is this what everyone has or are there any 2004 cars i have missed?

My cars wad is 108MB, that is with all the current 2004 cars: Mclaren 19 v2 MP4-19B, TF104, 006, PS04B, and i have the R23B by viper with the R24 livery. The rest of the cars are the megapatch carset.

I have noticed loading time is a bit longer and my frame rate is now 20FPS and P.O about 70.

Could you send me your cars.wad please? I don't know how you did it but I would like mine to be 55mb as well!

I have all the 2003 cars and it is less than 80mb. Just try to remove all the files from older cars that remain unused in ur wad

Using X-aser Lanfire case with 5 fans inside cathodelights etc included aswell :P

mine carwad is around 140mb

mine 2003 wad is 84.7 MB HI RES with the 7 cars from viper in it !

Updating 2004 with BAR, Mclaren, Minardi and Jaguar and nothing else changed then the 2003 wad its 96.8 GB so it will be bigger if the other cars come out. Just the loading time is a bit longer but nothing lost in P0 so loading time a bit longer is no problem time to do something before racing a complete race héhé

@gene&tonic: i think the reson why mine is so small is that i used a fresh default cars.wad and then updated with 2004 cars, so any cars that have not been released for 2004 are just the default 2001 cars, so probably this is not what you are looking for

using easywad, its says how many files are in the wad. mine has about 320 files. what are other peoples? i try and go through and remove unused tex files too.

60MB with all 2003 and 2004 cars available at Hi Res.
Don't forget when installing new 2004 cars that use "hi_team_10_1.TEX" for example instead of "hi_jaguar_1.TEX" that you can delete the original car name .tex files. For most 2003 cars, installing would overwrite the original files but 2004 cars use this new team_no name format so do not overwrite. If you use high res textures and have all 5 2004 cars installed, you might have 15+MB of un-needed .tex files in your .wad.

I agree with Gene and Tonic, I have the same cars.wad as you (the original Gp4 cars.wad, installing the 2004 cars that is released yet). And my cars.wad up to 112 Mb, and deleting old .tex and .gp4 files!!

The other way to get .wad file size down ist to convert your GP4.exe to only read Lod_0. This way you can delete all other lods for all cars which saved me about 40MB. Make sure your system can handle it though cos it pushes up the PO.

Well.. I clean my cars.wad deeply and I made down the size to 100 Mb exactly
