hi everybody,

having seen all these fantastic olden day cars coming along all of a sudden it has got me interested in returning to something i started a while back but gave up.

as you can see from the screenie it needs a lot of work doing to it and so is a very long way from being finished.
one of the mjaor problems im having with this is the normals, can anyone tell me how to sort this out, there are alot of obvious flat panels and dark areas, etc.

anyway what do you think of it so far considering it is the first car ive tried to make?

OMG! I'm in retro GP4 car heaven! From a trickle, to suddenly a flood of retro F1 stuff! Long may it continue! :)

Whether it's your first car or your 100th, it's a superb likeness. I feel a 1990 mod coming along ;)

yes, i did have some quick textures done that looked not too bad but ive made a lot of changes to the shape so it will need remapping but the textures are probly just about within my competance, but i am new to paint shop pro so ill have some more learning to do.

and thanks for all the positive feedback, its nice too here. ill try my best to finish it and iron out the many problems, dont expect anything too soon though, there is only so much time i can avoid work before i feel guilty :p

just a quick update,

ive spent a bit more time trying to sort out the problems, havent got too far as zmodeler started playing up, but at least now both sides of the car are the same. i knocked up some quick textures and some even quicker remapping so it is very patchy but it is only there to give a more real impression of the look of the car at this early stage and is not in anyway supposed to appear final. still much to do.

Looking amazing!
Remember though, that the rear wing was the same height as the airbox in 1990, and a bit further back. ;)

if anyone knows where i can get a load of photos of this car it will be very helpful, as it stands im only working from 2, which of course limits quite a lot the accuracy i can do.

@ stan, thanks that will be very helpful, maybe you can give me a few pointers as to what else need doing to sort it out properly.

another short update,

ive more or less finished the shape (thanks to stan for sorting out the normals, much appreciated) there are the odd little niggle to sort out but as far as any major changes are concerned its done as far as i am going to take it as this is purely a way for me to get familiar with zmodeler, i may come back to it at a later date to make a strictly accurate model but this is it for now.
i have started mapping the car, and have tried to get it in the game (which has so far been unsuccesful so ill have to work at that).
anyway, here is the progress.

I'll try to get some pics posted, but I'm sure the airbox hole was little bit bigger.

Shape looks pretty good, and the normals are alot better, but still need work. Keep going i had alot of problems with normals, most of which (with much help from flash) was down to the damage model

That car will be nice to see in the game later.

Im not sure if have seen it, but the rear wing holding seem to
get up to next wing too, on the picture you get from Berger fan.
