I changed the wheel positions with Teameditor but when I start the game it still uses the default coordinates. The steering wheel and helmet are also done with teameditor but they show up perfectly. Is this a bug or is there another way to set the wheelbase?

i had the same problem.
the wheel pos are stored in the wad so you have to set the wad path to the wad with the car, and not use openwad.

Tried that too, didn't succeed. I just used gp4tweaker and changed the values and hit the start gp4 button but no changes in wheel position...
What file stores those data? Is it the collision_mesh file?

With the Dallara, the highest point of the cockpit, is the same height as the top of the front tyres, and as Erix says, the rear wing is both too high, and to far rearwards. Lookng good though.

Just updated the sidepods, cockpit and visor. Moved the rearwing a bit forward and the frontwing a bit upward. Added bodylines, shadows and alpha's to the textures and made Pirelli tyres. Just two helmets to paint and Scuderia Italia is ready for the '91 season.

It seems too tall, or the tires are too small. F1 cars back then were 1m tall, and the tires 26" in diameter (2/3 of a meter), but on your car (and some of the other older cars too) the airbox height appears to be almost twice the tire diameter. Its hard to tell from those shots but it still looks too narrow to me (or could be an illusion because of the height). otherwise is looking good though, keep it up

It's a LOT better, but the highest point of the cockpit needs to be the same height as the top of the front tyres., and the rea wing is still too high.

I used the tyres from Tony's 88 mod. I believe their diameter is too small. I guess bigger tyres are needed. I lowered the rear wing (top is just below the airbox now) and moved it forward again but the rest is fine.

You keep saying that but the picture you show contradicts your statement. The highest point of the cockpit is, in my view, the point where the visor is exposed. That's still a bit higher than the top of the front tyre.

Yeah, I did exaggerate a bit ;)
but it's definatley a bit more lower(not quite as low as the tyres), than it is atm, and that would give the nose the required flatter profile, and not make it look so bulky.

With regard to the rear wing, remember in 1991 it was lowered(a scale) 5cms lower than the airbox, & not the same height. Also, the back of the rear wing was brought forwards by 10cms.

Whilst I'm here, it'd be a good idea to include the windshield and the radio/telemetry arials that should be on the nose of the car.

Thanks for the great feedback! This is the sort of thing I need to improve my car. I lost interest in F1 in the mid 80's and got back two years ago (hail GP3) so I missed F1 in the 90's. It was a real challenge for me to create a car which I never knew existed :D

I used a handdrawn sideview of the car together with some photo's I found online to get the right dimensions.
Here's how I built the car:

I think the rear wing is at the right position now. There's a visor but it doesn't show in the screenshots I made. After some alterations it does now. I will add the arials later on, first I wanted the overall look of the car to be more realistic.

It is very nice, but the problems you had with the shape probably come from the picture being angled a bit, my friend.
Very nice overall!!!!! One thing I can say is that the top of the cockpit is a bit taller, so the driver would not be able to see ahead. Maybe that's GP4 problem, as drivers might be lower there.
Anyways, very nice :)

I've just found another thing! ;)
the top of the cockpit isn't flat, it's round(pointed even), and it blends into a flatter surface about halfway down the nose.

Changed all kinds of stuff: wings, suspension, overall height, sidepods, new helmet incl textures, new pirelli textures (on tony's 88 tyres). This is the final shape. Textures wil be updated if I find the sponsors I couldn't figure out from the photo's.
