that file contains all parts names for gp4 files. it's a text file and you can safely delete it.

this argument was already discussed, you can copy lod 0 files over all other lods but doing this there is a waste of space and a greater cpu occupancy.
try a search in this forum, patching some bytes in the exe you can force loading of lod 0 only so all other lods can be deleted. this is deprecable but if you want......

If you have a really fast CPU you probably won't notice much of a performance hit with only lod_0 cars - I don't.

Basically, get a hex editor, load up GP4.EXE, and look for the string:

CAR_%d_LOD_%d

Change the '%d' to '0' and overwrite the trailing 'd' with a hexadecimal '0' byte.

It now reads:

CAR_%d_LOD_0

which will only look for lod_0 cars, so you can trim all the rest out of CARS.WAD.

Keep a back-up of GP4.EXE just in case of mistakes.

I searched for it, and copied that line from ure post, and searched and it says Cant find anymore ocvcurances.

its on line 00244490 in my hexeditor anyway. its called 'Hex Editor' surprisingly enough, and its from hhdsoftware.com - version 2.

I use the same editor as you b-tone, but when I save the exe file, and try to open it, it says "not valid win32 application"

on topic: you can use team editor, it has a feature to disable all lower lods so you can delete them safely. make a backup of the wad before though
