Hi,

I used the search the other day to find info on what operating systems people use (I did have 98SE for games and XP pro for Other use)

After reading throug the topics a lot of people seem to use XP for games and say its really good for games.

I installed Tony Hawk 4 yesturday and it doesn't run properly and then crashes and a couple of other games as well crash a lot.

I havn't installed GP4 on it yet as that will be tonight. Does anybody else have problems with games on XP or is there a patch that helps with games??

Your help is appreicated!

hi,

My personal experience of XP is that it works fine and dandy with everything except games. Any game I use with XP seems to crash after about 5 minutes, but those same games work fine on Millenium on my system. XP is fully updated etc so I have no clue why it does it, even happens from a clean install. :-(

The best advice I can give is to try GP4 with XP and if it works, BRILLIANT! if it doesnt then use it with 98. There doesn't seem to be any "magic" patches unfortunately, it seems to either like games or it doesn't.

Sorry I am not much help, just thought I would add my thoughts and let u know it isn't just u that has probs with XP and games.

I am planning on upgrading my computer soon and i was wondering if i should put XP on or stay with 98SE. Interesting reading above.

Anyone else having trouble with The Sims and GP4?

Ultrafex & anze89:
What make of video card have you got? would this be the cause of the your problems?

Could some of you guys that are using XP for games post your computer specs, please.

And what about Joysticks and wheels? I have the thrustmaster cougar joystick setup and a momo wheel do these work ok on XP?

Ok I installed GP4 last night and that didn't work properly. All the cars were white and it only got 25 FPS when on 98 I had 37.

Its not the graphics file as I use the original one and the one from here with the same results.

I'm useing the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, does anyone know if there are any bugs with it.

I've now gone back to a split disk with 98 & XP :(

For those interested in specs and xp:
I run a Dell 8250 2.53GHz Pent.4Nvidia GeForce4MX420
80GB IDE harddrive(7200rpm) and 512MB RDRAM. I use this with the GT Foorce logitech wheel and pedal set from the P.S.2 and everything is dreamy!

With the 9.6 patch just sitting in a folder in the GP4 dirctory folder that stopped xp from crashing; but if I click on the exe. file of the patch GP4 won't load(!!) and I have to re-install the lot!
So,in my experience just leave the 9.6 patch sitting in there and play from GPx patch shortcut. XP:NP!

I'm running a
P4 2.4
512MB Ram
80gb HDD 7200
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb
MS Force Feedback Wheel

And I can't get games to run on XP!

I might try ME one day to see if thats better then 98 but I Know alot of people say ME isn't as good as 98SE
