i posted in here coz madman isnt brave enough to venture into off topic ;)

is there a linux or windows tool what i can use to move files from windows to linux? i was using partition magic 8 and when i booted linux the kernal paniked about no mount points :-o

i cant use floppys because its 50mb and i cant use cds because, i have none left :)

From shell, try "mount -t vfat" to your Windows drive with FAT16 or FAT32 file system. For NTFS file system, I dunno, maybe not supported. Linux didn't care with what MS did with NTFS anyway. ;)

In reality, doesn't matter who's right but most important is who's left.

k, so

mount -t vfat /dev/hda3 /mnt/dos

?

how do i unmount :)

Turn-off your computer and unplug your HD. Hehehe...

Not all distros support vFAT mounting. Linux kernel need to be patched. To ensure, visit this website about the patch project.

this is confusing :) all i want is 3 files :D

btw, i installed mandrake 9 instead and its better then redhat imo :)

Check if your Redhat or Mandrake has support vFAT as well as NTFS. It should done in newest distro. Just try to plug your vFAT/NTFS (for NTFS, be sure not a system boot drive). Hope Linux had already recoqnize them. If not, you need get back with shell commands. :)

do you know vmware? it's a program for windows/linux to create a virtual pc inside your pc. you can install it under winxp and create a linux virtual pc
you can use as linux boot disk your linux partition on the hd or create a virtual partition in a file and install linux on it (this is what i do)
then start an ftp server on your virtual linux and u/l d/l files with an ftp client under windows. you can use samba to mount the linux partition under win too but it's a bit complicated. if you need moving only few files the ftp server solution is better
vmware costs a lot but there's a trial version wich is free

bye
Otherwise, using Linux for Windows?
