Hi,

I would like to see a race restart key similar to that used in F1c (y key if you`re familiar) so we don`t have to exit and reload everytime to restart the race.

Perhaps someone [Madman :) ] could do this in the near future.

Me too.
Nice idea, though.
I'll check it whenever this is possible.

This is what I found (and the finest solution):

1st solution:
To restart a race from beginning, we can allocate buffer, which buffer size may as large as race savegame file. When a race starting, we copy all backups data into new allocate buffer. The disadvantage is, may causing memory leak when we exiting a race by pressing Esc key (not when race was over).

2nd solution:
By simulating save/load game. a temporary savegame file needed and will created (and overwrite the old one) as soon as a race started. This is the safest way to ensure game runs smoothly. The disadvantage is, you need to wait that loading progress thingy.

Looks like the 2nd suggestion would be the best plan,

My initial suggestion was to avoid the whole loading routine. If you do option 2 are you saying we still have to wait to load the track/cars/animation wads.

If this is the case then option 1 is the way to go and then just use Rambooster to clean up the memory leak.

Memory leak can be automatically freed when exiting the game if we allocate them using local heap. But if users playing the game with many starting to the race, can causing unpredictable results.

Meah, unpredictable result, what the hey! Only happen after a load of restarts anyway, make the bad drivers pay :D

i persoanlly wud say Option 2

If u do option 1 and have a meory leak during the game it wud slow down the game whislt playing it

yeah but the original idea was to avoid loading times and you will still have that with option 2

yes but are we talking about loading the gamestate or are we talking about loading everthuing again, surely if you can reload from start of race you wouldnt have to load the wads again just the gamestate, which wouldnt take very long at all

I personally prefer with option 2 because has less problems etc, and of course because it easier to implement.

Option 1 is kinda pointless

Sure it takes away the loading times, but it gives possible performace problems, which people really dont need with GP4

The second optino may have the loading times but you dont ahve to go through the menus to do it
