yea the second one is certainly very overcast, just trying the extremes, these are both from dry race conditions.
the one from barcelona is about the best ive come up with, its a bit more subdued than default.

It can be more blue I think .
I think you can make it by taking photos after some days` raining.

the sky colours are obviously not exactly accurate, im just playing around and although as you say the barcelona sky sholud be bluer in reality, it does look a lot better in game with the coloures toned down.
im still playing around and will try wtith a bluer sky but toned down lighting. im still p[laying around with what values do what. lo2k provided some of the answers but ive also found anothe fie called trackname.hze which contains some seemingly meaningless numbers
HAZE_00 499.687 -11.802 -680.899 20.701 3.125 -0.014 0.000 -1.000
HAZE_01 -176.424 11.859 216.912 13.077 3.000 0.508 0.000 -0.861
ive tried playing around but have hadd no noticeable effect. any ideas ?

Haze might be used for raining weather, but they might be also 3D Surface for Heat haze as GP4's team said once it was in fact a texture effect (so applied to a 3D square or box).
These numbers looks like for me to 3D datas, maybe
X,Z,Y, Nx, Nz, Ny, U, V but maybe Madman could confirm that...

ok you giuys would be the experts, makes sense now youve told me. i was hoping it might be some kind of overall haziness setting, like in f12001 tracks. i guess ill stick with the weather files

and were i can find the values of the heat haze

What is Caelen actually search for? A definition values for env. fogs?
Lo2k is correct, *.hze files are used to define heat haze.

In reality, doesn't matter who's right but most important is who's left.

in the track.wad for every track there is a file called weather.wdt, just open it in notepad end experiment.
theres also the same file in the maps/resources/trackname folder in gp4 folder but as with a lot of gp4 those ones are redundent and are overridden by the one in the wad. the haze file is in the wad too called something like trackname.hze

so is it possible to make more realistic heat haze?

i dont know anything about the heat haze but ive been playing with the clouds, heres what ive found.
there are a group of greyscale bmps smap_(a-f)(0-4) with a corrosponding jam wpatt_(a-f)(0-4).
the jam seems to act like an alpha channel to the corrosponding image.
ive tried increasing the size of all .bmp's from 512x512 to 1024x1024 but gp4 crashed. so we could be stuck with low res cloud pictures, unless you have to increase the resolution of the jam as well, but they are currently 256x256 which didnt equal the original bmp size, so i dont think so.
im not sure wheathe the gp4 groups the images by imagea0,b0,c0,d0,e0,f0 or by image a0,a1,a2,a3,a4. its hard to work out. ive tried altering images but cant determin the actual effects, ive tried all black and all whit images but still get clouds of some description.
im assuming gp4 uses the group(whichever way they are grouped) for different weathe conditions ie group a or 1 for sunny and group 4 or f for really wet, but i could be totally wrong.

no, the maximum jam width is 256.
