G4P performance files in patched GP4... how?

My patched GP4 exe isnt tolerated by Performance Editor, which I assume to be the utility that performance settings from G4P files into the game... ? What do I use?

make a performance file and let gpxpatch/gpxset bring ot into the game.

fore some reason, that works for me only with performance-files made by gp4edit (*.txt), but i think it's supposed to work with files from other editors (*.g4p) as well.
