I've been cleaning up a friends garden and have made £50. I really want to play GP4, so what should I buy to upgrade my PC?

Here are my current PC specs:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Processor: Intel(R) Celron(R) CPU 1.80 GHz
Memory: 256 MB RAM[/b]
Graphics: Intel(R) 82845G/GL Extreme Graphics (Intergrated)
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0a

your systems fine apart from your graphics card, you'll need more than £50 for a decent one though

your pocessor speed and RAM are already good.

But you really need a good video card.

You can get a Geforce4 ti4200 or an ATI Radeon. But these can be quite expensive.

By the way, stay away from the Geforce MX cards if you can. They are much cheaper, but they won't give you very satisfactory performance.

Try to get a total of at least 512mB RAM, and at least a ATi Radeon of some kind (minimum 7500) with at least 32mB.

gotta agree, you defanantley need a new graphic card, I'm running a system 500Mhz slower than that! but my graphic card makes up for it!

It looks like I will be getting a graphic card, but a lot of the ones you have specified are AGP. I have a PCI Slot.

Any good PCI graphics cards for around £50?

By the way, I currently have intergrated graphics, I heard I need to disable it before I can install a new graphic card. Is this true, and if so, how do I do it?

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmmm, PCI will be very difficult to come by, as they don't make them anymore!!! :S only place you can really hope to find one is on ebay.

[cgi.ebay.co.uk]

This one may be nice for you!!! Fits your budget!

Christ people unless you've had a GF4 MX don't blast it - they're cheap cards and are very good for the price (I have a GF4 mx420).

Go for that ebay one though Raikkonen!

I meant no offense to anyone when I advised to try to stay away from GF MX cards.

@genesis
FYI , I also do have a GF4 MX420 and MX440, but the PC that I normally use has a GF4 Ti4200. So I'm quite sure on how they compare to each other.

Right then you'll know that it's not imperative to 'stay away from them' :)

What if you remove your integrated card, and place the new one instead, so you don't have to suffer to find a card that fits your PC?
I used my dad's PC for the last 2 1/2 years, and at the end of June I got a laptop (for college), and I have 512mB RAM, 32mB ATi Radeon 7500 on a P4
2,66 GHz with Windows XP. I tell you, I run GP4 very well, with many items on high definition.
Try maybe selling your card to add money to the new one?

"Christ people unless you've had a GF4 MX don't blast it - they're cheap cards and are very good for the price (I have a GF4 mx420)."

I've an MX 420, a Radeon 8500, a Geforce 4 Ti4600 and now a Radeon 9800 Pro, and to say that a MX 420 is around 20% of the performance of the 9800 is an understatement.

They are worlds apart.

An MX 420 is the equivalent of a GeForce 2 MX 400, and by any modern standards, suck big time.

But yeah, that Ebay MX 440 maybe your only choice until you can get a new motherboard... :(

They are also worlds apart in price range Gavin - as I said up there, for it's price the GF4 mx range are a nice choice.
