Does anyone think it is possible to create the old 1980s TV overlays? I have zero knowledge on how to do it but I wanted to see the possibility...

Examples:

Yes, I think its possible.

I want to do something like this and update early 90's overlays too.

For early 90's I think we can use original 2010 overlay tower and update it.

Early 90s are fine as they are now, they use the classic version. The difference in 90s are minimal. For example the early ones showed a picture of the cars when using the gap overlay. the standings were the same as the classic.

Early 90's graphics were actually quite different from the "Classic" mid 90's onwards set:

Guys I love that the game looks like the old times on Tv but I think we need to put some effort on the cars and circuits performance and have a complete set of tracks to 80s ( 90s we have already all not sure ).
Off course any upgrade on TV overlays will be very welcome too.
Is it possible to have a team working on this ;)

I know Kerley is working alone on better tracks and cars for 81

Just thinking ...

Nice find! I almost forgot about these things!

So our current classic set works for 95/98, a new one took place from 99 to 2004.

And your pictures depict what would be a 1991/1994 set. The one I asked for is more relevant to 80s till 90.

We do have some great 90s mods and tracks. I personally believe that the 1984, 1985,1986 mods are good and just require minor tweaks; the 88 and 89 mods are fine. kerley I think is working on 1990. Then 1987 is missing.

As for 80s tracks, I thought people could just use the 1988 track pack with cosmetic changes to make them work for each season, we also have 1967 Zandvoort,1979 Osterreichring, 1980 Brands Hatch and “I think” a 1981 Zolder that can also be “upgraded” to serve for most of the 80s seasons. By cosmetic I meant most of the adverts, one or another new track layout that got a new corner/chicane (classic Monaco comes to my mind).

At least, these are the tracks I used to compile a track list for the 80s seasons I downloaded

Here is my current collection (seasons I have interest only, I don’t have for other seasons):
1984,1985,1986,1988,1989,1991,1992,1993,1994,1995,1996,1997,1998 and 1999. Only two seasons missing between them and are probably still being done by others. 87 and 90 are also seasons of great interest.

I thought about doing some actual ingame menus/track loading arts to improve over existing ones for these 80s mods, since I don’t like most of them, I find them quite misplaced over the game UI. But that might be a personal project for 2024, who knows. It has been almost 15 years since I last did something personal for the game.Might (re)start with track loading screens because my last personal work for rFactor was them, in a league I raced for back in 2009/2010.

I would probably use these as a base for the loading screens: [www.grandprixgames.org]

And maybe add some more info about the track like I did with rFactor ones. These had some % bars about tyre, engine, brakes wear and aero level. I find them quite useful (at least for rFactor they were).

Unfortunately a data loss while migrating a few years ago killed nearly all of my rFactor artworks except for my helmet and a kart livery. I will have to work from memory...
