Finally no CTD!

After days of searching this and other forums, testing and swearing, I think I have a usable GP4 on a Nvidia GeForce4 MX420 card!
Home XP operating system. P4 3.05 MHZ. 512mb ram.
9.6 patch.

Manual in game Graphics setup:

Texture Detail- Low 16bit
Environment Maps-Off
Bump Mapping-Off
Shadows-off
(the above cause CTD if changed)

Smooth set to 6.

Everything else is maxed.
Get 56 Frames.

Have run 6 champ races with no CTD.

Kinda miss the higher textures especially with rain effects but still good visuals.

what?!! 56fps with a GeForce4 MX420???

i'd cut back on the fps (to 30 odd) and go for hi textures.

Will it definately crash if you up the Texture detail to Med 16 bit?

they shouldnt cause crashes should they?.
what graphics driver do you have?

No they shouldnt! i have a gforce4mx440, wich i would presume is prertty much the same, and i can have what ever settings i like, even though i shant go over low anyway... 500mhz cpu...

Was able to up the textures and seems to be stable.
I will revise my original claim and say that CTD happens
if I turn on Mapping, and or shadows.
Have only run one race with the higher textures so far.
I will cross my fingers, legs etc.
This is all probably Nvidia driver related but do not want to roll back to 41.09 or other cause 44.03 is only one that works for N2003 for me as well as other sims.

I have Ahtlon XP 2200+, 512mb ddr and old GF2 pro.
I play with 800*600, all graphichs are maxinum and 30fps... PO is 80 in practice and 100 - 120 in race...
